I was searching for some fluorescent bulbs for my 48" double light fixtures that I'm putting in my garage/weight room/shop. I want something that will be bright to work on my vehicles for the shop, something for my weight room and something for my three bay car garage.

Any ideas?

I use T8 fixtures and buy the bulbs at Lowes by the case - about $28 for 10. I buy 6500K bulbs - nice and bright.

Reading between the lines the poster seems to be looking for 'bright' 48" fluorescent bulbs. A 48" fluorescent is going to be somewhere between 32 and 40 watts - the low end being energy saving bulbs. You can't put a 'brighter' bulb in an existing fixture because the length dictates the wattage. The only way to get more light is to add more fixtures. I think that was the source of the poster's confusion - if not, then for more light look for a bulb rated at 40 watts. That's the best you are going to do.
