Fluorescent Tube Sleeves

Anyone ever used them? I'm building a new house, and ordered some of these for the fixtures in my garage.

I have them on a fixture that I mounted to the garage door for use when it is open, pretty sure it's saved me at least one broken bulb from shutting the door with stuff too close. Worst case, it contains the broken glass.

I've used them before. They're not a bad idea if your lights are in a place where they are subject to damage.

I've got them on all of the bulbs in my two garages that don't have some type of guard protecting the bulbs. They definitely contain the mess when you drop one or the kids hit it with a ball or whatever. They're available at the box stores.

We have to install them in kitchen fixtures here, kind of a pain but they do the job.

We run yellow ones in our lab to filter UV light. I'm not sure I'd bother using them at home though.

Since I work in a food manufacturing facility, all of our bulbs (even in the offices) are Shat-r-sheild bulbs (http://www.shattershield.com/)

They do the trick, I guess... but we did have one melt down in our office when the bulb started arcing internally. I initially thought the ballast was melting down, but it turned out to be the plastic coating on the bulb itself.

Only disadvantage to them is that they yellow with age, otherwise they can be a good thing.
