Well I had high hopes for the round cfl in the old-school drop light deal, but initial testing was very disappointing. Picked up two 100W cfl's from HD.

Ambient temp

Light comes on but very weak. Pretty much useless.

I stood around for a bit waiting for it to go full bright but finally moved on to getting something done. Came back about 15 minutes later and finally full bright.

Repeated the test at an ambient temp of 63 with only a slight improvement. Tried it with both new 100w bulbs from hd and one 60w I had in the house. Also same results when using a different drop light fixture.

These are ones I use in old-school drop lights. Takes a minute or so for full brightness, but the shape is the same as a typical A19-A21 incandescent, the spiral CFL tube is fully protected by a tough plastic shell that makes the bulb look like a rough duty coated bulb, and being that the bulb is enclosed, they work well in cold temps. I have yet to break one or have one burn out.

They come in different wattages, the 20 watt is a 75 watt incandescent equivalent, and the largest in this style.
