A few years back I was at a home show that had a display of prefab foam walls for house concsruction. Basicly it was poured foem sandwiched between 2 sheets of chipboard (if I remeber right). Any way I was wondering if this is a good material for a shop and what it's called.

It's called Structural Insulated Panels, or SIPs. They work really well for garages, my next door neighbor built his out of SIPs a couple years ago. Construction is really fast, and they have excellent thermal and sound insulation. The material costs are generally higher than standard studwall construction, but because they go together so fast you save money on labor and the end cost is pretty comparable.

The only thing you have to watch out for is cutting into the panels. Since the outer plywood layers are the primary structural element, you can't go cutting into it as you would with a shear wall for example. Wiring can be tricky.

I work for a company that builds modular research labs and hog buildings, all of them are made with SIP. They work out really well. If were using them for a shop I would have them pressed with osb on both sides than fiberglass and gelcoat them on the inside. than run the electrical externally in pvc. that way if you need to add outlets/lights it is easy to access the runs. and everything would be waterproof.
