Check out this foam tool holder that I had made. At first I was planning on making them to sell, but decided that it would not be possible as the cost to produce was too high. Maybe someday.

This one was made for a Lista box using Craftsman tools.

Nice! Can you elaborate on how you did that? Did you just carve up a piece of foam by hand?

The different colored foam is sonic welded (I think) at the foam factory. The indentions were done with a CNC Router. The foam is not that expensive it is the setup time to get the unit laid out, then the run time for each unit that costs so much. There are people that make kits to do this sort of thing but I really never found any of them to really have the right foam.

Someday when I find a cheap CNC machine I will start making these for people.

This thing works great and is washable with soap and water. Closed cell foam.

Thanks, I like your taste in cabinets. I sell those as part of my business. There is no other cabinet that even comes close in my book. Not saying that because I sell them. I say that because from my research they are the BEST cabinet out there if you want to put that kind of money out.

I don't sell many as they are so expensive but the ones that I do place people just lovem.

I think thats awesome, that is if you have tons of space... I have nothing against your design, if I had tons of space, I could see myself using something like that. But I would say a Hansen tray is going to take up less space, even though people like to complain about the space those take up...

That was my thought as well. It looks very nice and is obviously very organized, but is very space-inefficient. That drawer could easily hold twice as much with a different storage system, but if you've got tons of room, more power to you.

Very true, but the drawer this is in is only 1.5 deep. That means one can fit a bunch of drawers in one cabinet at that size. It's those deep drawers that eat all the space. I have more room than tools. I better get busy buying more tools. I am a chevy guy so all I need is 1/2 9/16 and 3/4 and I can tear that dude up and down.

I got the idea from the military. They use that sort of stuff. Great way to keep track of tools as you know when one is missing.

I've also done this to organize fasteners, supplies, etc..

I'm aware that the pliers drawer could be denser. As I get more, I'll re-cut a new set of foam- I've got plenty of it.

It's those deep drawers that eat all the space. I have more room than tools.

I have more tools than room. Those deep drawers don't eat up space, they hold tools! Storing sockets vertically is more space-efficient.

The Hansen folks can't quite seem to figure it out, though. I sometimes wonder if any of their designers have ever turned a wrench or worked in the biz.

Drawer space is always at a premium. Why does Hansen run the deeps and shallows in the same direction, when they could reduce the width of the tray considerably by running the sizes in opposite directions?

I fail to see a problem with that. I think I count 17 pairs of pliers there. If it was done in the style of the OP, it would hold maybe 8. If I was to lay out everything that I have in my tool box, I'd need at least another 42" combination box to hold it all.

Starter kit given to my father when he started off at a Chrysler dealer 30-something years ago. Theres a whole set, probably worth some money...although one was grinded a bit.

Great looking shop. I am getting ready to do one for a guy in town. I will post pictures when we get it done. They are going to use it for some filming for training videos for BMW and Rolls Royce. Love your taste in cabinets. I sell and use them in my garage, but I only have a tiny 2 car. Some day after the kids are out of college maybe.

What is your source for the tool foam? I was thinking of doing my drawers and need to find a source for the foam.
