Foam Toolbox Organizers

I know that there are seperate posts on different organizers but couldnt find one that was semi-deticated on shadowing. Im in the process now of doing this in my box. Can anyone post pix of their set-ups so people like me can get ideas of cutting / lay-outs / and anything else related? Thanks!!

Hi Guys,

Probably little far for you since we are in Singapore ;-)

But sharing tips is OK, right?

I would recommend when you draw your shadow beofre doing the actual cut to:
- add "handles" so you can grap your tools. I use rectasngles with 2 sides half circle for such. I tend to optimize by bunding all tools of the same category in line and une one big such handle
- cater for enough spacing between each tool for the foam to not distort. It depend on your foam but let's say 2" is a good first try
- be careful of the access of tools at the back side of the drawer ;-)

Just in case you want to try us, we recently added this 5S shadow toolbox as a standard service with package price after doing a few of such both in small and big quantities since we now have the right suppliers, techniques and tools to provide it at a very affordable price.

I'm an aircraft so all my stuff has to be foamed out. I went the cheap route and bought a bunch of $7 rolls of camping foam, traced everything out and cut it all with Xacto knives.
Took awhile but it saved me a ton of money. Plus, I buy at least one new tool every paycheck so it's constantly evolving. This makes it easy to change, especially since I left a little empty room in each drawer.

Im the team leader for 5s at work and have done a ton of this stuff...ugh. I found freezing the foam makes for better cuts. I also made a set of punches. If you freeze the foam you can use paddle bits to drill holes for sockets. I have found using a piece of mdf for socket trays works better than the foam. I used a automotive primer/paint system to finish the mdf. Then i labeled all the sockets and put 5 coats of clear over the labels to inbed them. It looks very nice.

Foaming looks great & I wish I could do it, but I simply don't have enough floor space to have enough cabinetry to do that with my tools. I bet if I emptied my 26" top & bottom box and then made up foam storage for everything, it would probably fill at least 4 times the drawers.

I foamed my toolbox because I thought it looked cool. I can't tell you how much time it has saved me looking for lost tools. It was definitely worth the effort.
