I saw a video on Youtube in which a gent had modified large barn door type hinges and mounted bench grinders so that the grinders fold down, under the bench when not in use. They are held under the bench by a latch until needed. Anyone tried it? What do you all think?

I think it's a fantastic idea! I have yet to implement it. Also, and this dates me as old, but many vintage secretary desks had a swing-up platform that the typewriter was bolted onto that operated in a similar fashion. I have long thought of implementing something like this in my shop to recover some valuable bench space, but have never taken the time to do so. For low-height tools such as a bench grinder or buffing wheel, this would seem to work very well.

I've got my grinder bolted to a winch hitch plate, and a hitch receiver mounted under my bench. Unfortunately it vibrates the entire bench... and I haven't decided on a good way to store the grinder / hitch plate when it's not in use.

I didn't even know that was a thing! What's the preferred method?
Probably the best method is a oneway balancer but cost some money

One way balancer on amazon

I have made my own before. I didn't use sliding weight but made a dozen equally spaced 10/32 holes around the perimeter of the hub. Different sized set screws in the holes provided the balancing weight. A lot of CNC grinders use a similar system to balance if they dont have automatic balancers(most do)

I have recently switched to aluminum hub CBN wheels which are balanced from the factory but expensive and not really useful for general grinding but just to put a fine edge on before finish honing.

I still have generally switched to a belt grinder for the general hogging/shaping grinding for things like mower blades and such.
