This should probably go in the tool section but i hate to get in the way of the tool waxing discussions.......:bounce:

Of the wiz-bang folding ladders out there, which one seems to offer the best value for the money, and works the best long term?? You can pay anywhere from $75-$300+ for one of these things, and I realize that I don't want the cheapest of the cheap, but most any of them would be better than the ancient wood one I have now.

Looking for something in a 16ft.

There are two styles of folding ladders. The one that can be folded like an M, and the one that are the Little Giant style (LG, Werner, Gorilla).

Which style can get you a better reply.

I would go with the Little Giant style, they seems to offer the best bang for your buck, and wont cost you too much.

I had a Giant and liked it, lost it in a fire and didn't replace it but it was handy at times, nice to haul. Only drawback was its slippery in icy weather.

..Little Giant ladders are great and real time savers. I have two, a smaller 17' and a larger 24'. the 24' gets a little heavy for indoors but it has wheels on it. I bought it for indoor two story stair painting and dose this perfect. Out doors I use a Howard 28' ext ladder for two story work. The little one for everything else works just fine and the Mrs has no problems using it.

I have the Gorilla brand of the little giant style from HD.
I could not have gotten my garage finished if I had not had this thing.
It works as advertised, makes good scaffold, VERY sturdy as a step ladder. Has a little sway as an extension ladder but only when out at it's max. (it is the long one.....20 foot I think)
Strange................HD only show the 13ft on the website now

I have a Little Giant I bought when I was a chimney sweep in 1981. Still perfect and in use today. I have always looked at a good ladder as an insurance policy that I am the benefactor!!!! You will not go wrong with Little Giant ladders, IMO.

On the other hand, my wife fell off a mass merchant copy. Slid on a marble tile floor and she rode it down. Tore her ACL when she landed. I don't think the Little Giant would have skidded, because the feet are better. That was over ayear ago, and she will always favor that knee, she will never be 100% again.

I watched the infomercials on the Little Giant ladders, but, never bought one as I MUST see, feel, and inspect something like that before dropping the cash on it.
At a local fair about 3 years ago there was a guy there giving demos and the sales pitch. I stepped right up (literally up the ladder) in different configurations and was as impressed as I had hoped. I walked out of the fair with a ladder.
I have used it many times over the last couple years and would highly reccomed it to anyone who asked.

I recieved a little giant type ladder from Costco last Christmas. Used it bunches building my shop. Works great and I love it. As any do it all device it has situations where it works ok, but a more specialized tool would be better. But its versitility has been a great asset and it has always felt safe and stable.

My father, brother, and brother in law, all have the same, 17' Little Giant ladder. I needed taller, and couldn't afford the large LG. I found the Werner 26' on Ebay for $189 delivered a couple of years back (LG's patent has expired), and ordered it. According to Amazon, it is 10lbs lighter then the 26" LG, but still quite stout (54lbs if I remember correctly). It has inserts to use as to separate a frame ladders, compared with LG's folding step that makes the second a frame with their ladder. I picked up the LG accessories (folding step, leveler, and wheel kit that I still need to install), as I prefer them over the Werner ones.
I looked at the Gorilla ones, but do prefer either the LG, or Werner, and recently picked up the 13' Werner, due to a bargain alert on a woodworking board ($69).

I have two Gorilla Folding Ladders (20' Extended and 10' when setup as an A-Frame). Each ladder can also be divided into two 5' A-Frame Ladders. This is done by removing the extension pieces and joining the extensions with a special bracket that locks the two pieces together. So these two ladders could give me four 5' tall A-Frame Ladders that I could run elevated for some good distance.

I have used them for a year now and although they are a little heavy, they are very stable. I would buy them again.

I got a foldable Werner from Lowes, I think 20 foot.
It was on sale, so it was < 1/2 the cost of a little giant of comparable size in my area.

I too have one of the Lowes sold Werner models that is a knock-off of the Little Giant. I've had Little Giants in the past, and frankly, I like the locking mechanism on the Werner better. It is very stable at full extension, straight or step ladder setup. It also comes with two hinges that let you separate the ladder sections and have two 5' step ladders (or scaffolding).

The Werner model is also slightly lighter than the LG model, but still has a 300# work rating. I don't think you can go wrong with it.

Looks like Werner is coming out on top, so I looked them up on Lowes and Home Depots websites. Amazing price difference on an MT-22 model ladder, Lowes price is $149, HD price is $209 for the same model# ??

The pisser is I HATE Lowes simply based on the fact that they refuse to remove their Spanish signage in their stores.
Does Home Depot offer price matching??

I have the 17' cosco brand. Its the one with the blue plastic accents on it. Its a little giant style without the $400 price tag. Paid about $100 for it.

Have you looked into a telescoping ladder? It doesn't do as much as a LG but it store neatly and is easy to carry around. Just google search it. Just my opinion, good luck in your search.
