Folding work bench

I'm considering using these to build a folding workbench. $40 for a pair and can supposedly hold $500 pounds, I doubt that since they are only 12" x8", but do you guys think these will be enough to support the weight of a workbench top? If not would would you suggest? I'd love to find some larger folding brackets, but I haven't been able to locate any thing better than these that's under $100 a pair. I've even considered building my own folding brackets out of steel channel, angle iron, or square tubing. Any ideas are much appreciated.

I would look for a different solution. Put something on a bench top on these, starting banging on it with the weight of a top, vise, what ever you're working on, etc. and those brackets are gonna give or pull out of the wall.

I'd like to know where you found those. We need to install a folding bench in the laundry room and those would simplify the install etc.

I made some inexpensive and sturdy folding work tops from 2X4s and 3/4 Ply wood. Screwed a 2X4 to the wall.. recessed some 4in hinges to that (4 of them) and then secured them to the work top. (it only uses the hinges to support the weight of the benchtop when folded.. but when extended\raised.. the weight of the back of the bench top sits flush on the 2x4 screwed to wall and the front is supported by 2 legs made from Black Gas Pipe from Home Depot. Easily holds 500 lbs ... and it 8Ft long by about 32 inches Deep. Will post some pics tonight of them. if you dont need them that big.. you can use the same idea for smaller ones.

I built a folding bench using these. With a pair of them it was pretty stable. I know I had a few hundred pounds sitting on it at one point. Sorry, no pics right now.

The problem with them is that the bench can't be too wide since you have to depress both of the unlock handles at the same time to lower the table. The locks are spring loaded. This means that you need to be able to reach around both sides of the table limiting its width to ~3ft.

If you had a pair of swing down legs to brace the front edge when its open I reckon they would work just fine

Nice, thanks for the idea. This will be a perfect way to save some space for my chop saw. My rolling chop saw stand takes up way too much space for the small percentage of time I spend actually using it.
