I have a cookie cutter spec home with a three car garage...and four cars.

By the time you put three cars in the garage, add a tool box, and mount two bike racks on the wall....no room for a work bench.

Don't need one often, but would like to have it when needed.

Recommendations? Buy one on Amazon/Home Depot? Buy a kit? Have the local woodworker in the HOA build one?

If possible, I'd like the option to use a vise on occasion. I assume I'd have to bolt/unbolt it every time I needed it.

If you don’t need anything crazy stiff for banging on...you could keep it super simple and just put a double thick piece of plywood hinged to the wall with fold in braces. This will at least help you determine if a folding bench will suit your needs or if you want something more permanent. I’m big on throwing a solution out there quick to get a chance to critique it and determine what will fully meet the need. For me a folding bench probably wouldn't work since I generally leave a few things on the bench “in work”

I have built a few
I like one that's hinged to the wall that lifts up, a support is pulled up too and is positioned behind a stop on the under side of the bench top.
The bench is cantilevered off the wall and has not legs under the front edge.
Here's a metal toolbox shelf designed that way:

So to fold it, you lift the bench top up, the support drops down, and the bench top can be folded down.
For something not as deep, I've bought some folding brackets off amazon and made this bench, more of a shelf that a bench but they are rated for 330#, nothing to cut/build, screw them to the wall studs screw on the bench top...done.
Brackets in pics, a pair:

Other brackets 880# per pair
This is one, you need at least 2:

Make up whatever you want the top to be-2x4s, double plywood. Get a couple of tee hinges

Long side into the wall stud and short side on top of the bench. Get some chain-there is a style that will kink less but I don't remember the name. Bolt one end to the outside bench corner and the other end to the wall. So now your bench will hinge easily upward and you need to make some type of catch to hold it against the wall. If you want it a bit more sturdy you could substitute pieces of angle iron for the chain.

If you want something easy, Check out on Amazon "Quick Bench Folding mounted workbench 20x48" I bought this and love it! It can hold 500lbs. It comes with everything you need to mount it to the studs.
