I've got limited room in my garage, and am contemplating building a 'murphy bed' style fold down workbench in one wall (behind where my truck parks). The idea is that when my truck is pulled out of the garage, I could fold down the workbench and have a useful flat surface to work on. I'm interested in seeing what anyone else has put together, and how it works. What do you like/dislike about what you have (or the concept in general)?

If you can use a wooden one, check out www.plansnow.com They have lots of storage plans for woodworking and storage that could be adapted. One is a wall mounted folddown worktable.

old thread coming up.

I used an old solid house door and hinges for a fold-away bench. Use a 2x4 plus thickness of hinge or custom make to fit. This will make it lay flat against the wall (make sure you are in the studs). I used plumbing floor flanges under the table screwed in and for supports (left on the legs). This gives you level adjustment if you need it. The legs unscrew when you don't need them. Not real great without pictures but the legs are regular "Home Dump" black gas pipe with cheap floor flanges,(one on each corner). I have stacked ALOT of weight on these with no problem. Hope someone else can use them.
