What are the opinions of using a Foley Belsaw model 1055 as a light to mid-duty grinder? I believe it has a 4" wheel and a larger 8" wheel coupled to a 1/2 hp 6.2 amp motor? I don't know the arbor size, or if I can mount wheels of other sizes. There seems to be one available for $100. Or should I hold out for a real grinder? Thanks

Foley Belsaw is a premier name in the sharpening field. What you are probably looking at is designed to put an edge on a cutting tool and not a general purpose grinder.

If you go on the Foley-Belsaw website you will see how expensive this tool is.I have 2 of these that I got off CL for less than $100.00 each. They were a steal.Great machines , well built and kinda simple to use after you use it awhile. If it was near me I would jump on it.

Yes, despite the $900 retail price, it's just a Craftsman block grinder in disguise. I've got two of them and use one as a medium duty grinder and the other for saw sharpening. They accept standard wheels.

Yes, they're worth $100 only if you get the saw sharpening tooling with them. I've bought and sold a couple of bare grinders on stands for less than $100. There are always sellers who research what F-B flogs them for, but don't fall for that. F-B have been great marketers of overpriced promises for many years, but how many guys do you know who've gotten rich sharpening saws in their garage?
