Foley Saw Sharpener

Saw this for sale locally and thought it was cool. I've always liked the complicated sharpening machines for some reason, if I had unlimited room I could see me accumulating these like some of you do vises and grinders. ;-)

Had a shop 30 years ago. If you are just doing it to collect equipment, that's one thing but if you want to make money forget it.
Handsaws are a thing of the past, and circular saws are so cheap you can buy new for less than you can sharpen them.

Greg13, just like the look of the old sharpeners, so amazingly complicated.

Sharpening was probably a good business during the depression, but considering I've never had a tool professionally sharpened in my life...

I've been idly watching for one of those locally. I have a bunch of old hand saws that I'd like to sharpen.

I bought mine to get the Burr retoother, which is far more useful to me. The Foley will eventually get fired up....

I recently got bit by the Foley-Belsaw bug. It's almost like collecting stray cats. If I didn't take 'em home, they were probably headed to the scrap yard.

Like Stuart in MN, I have a bunch of old saws -- 100 or more -- that I picked up for a buck or two that I want to restore. Now I have several saw filers, saw setters, a retoother, blade polishers, scissor sharpeners, grinders, and who knows what else.

There is a lot more to these saw filers than you might think. You will need saw carrier bars, which are often missing or thrown away during the decades of non-use.

Be careful with your enthusiasm. By the time you get the thing fully restored and running, you could easily have hand-set and sharpened 100 saws.

The one piece that I regret selling was the 310 carbide grinder. I could do carbide saw blades & hole saws, wish I still had it.
