hey fellas, this might be a stupid question but here goes..

i'd like to use my 16gal shop vac as a "portable" dust collector for a table saw and miter saw. the saws are on opposite ends of my basement, so installing dust collection plumbing ist gonna happen...

i'd like to have a foot operated switch to power the vaccuum. seems like ive seen a pedal switch like this before, but i'm drawing a blank. ive checked a couple places like grizzly online and havent turned up anything.

anybody got any ideas?

I would say that the Amazon model is quite a bit nicer than the HF one, and if I were aware of it at the time I bought mine (a few years back, when I had my kids first working on the scroll saw), I'd have gotten it.

My HF pedal is all plastic. While I can't say I've had any troubles with it, I have an SSC pedal for my TIG welder, and that baby is all steel, and is really built like a tank, and also made in the USA.

So, while I posted the links to the HF stuff, I'll say that you made the right choice.

if the one at HF is all plastic, i probably wouldnt have bought it anyway...

Not a foot pedal but I use one of these auto switches LINK for the exact same thing. Dust collection on the table, miter, circular saw, router, power planer. The auto switch stays attached to the vacuum and I just plug my tool into the receptacle.

Yeah, if you had to order it, the choice is a no brainer. The cord on my HF switch is kind of stiff, and because of that, I had issues with it sitting flat on the floor until I screwed it to a heavy block of trex. Still, I'm not unhappy with it, and it serves its purpose.

My Fein shop vacuum has something like that built in. The problem is that between the vacuum and my chop saw, it trips the breaker. My solution was to plug the vacuum into one circuit, and the saw into another. I then plugged a lamp over the saw into the vacuum's outlet. Turn the lamp on, and the vac starts up.
