im building a 24'x36' pole barn with 10 foot walls and was wondering if anyone sees a problem with using 4''x12'' cookies ive been looking online and cant find anything on what i need in my township

My experience with this type of structure support is two-fold:
The first is drainage- regardless of how much precaution you take, there's always going to be moisture penetration into the hole that can lead to rot- regardless of the rating of the material.
The second is replacement- if rot or damage does occur, it's a ***** to get that post out to replace it.
I much prefer as ICC requires (as per their deck codes), footings above finished grade and metal stand-offs that keep the post from direct contact along with a mechanical attachment.

the local menards store is telling me i need 14'' wide pads because the 12 '' pads wont support the weight of my package i purchased. i was hoping to start the build today my neighbor already came over with his auger and did 12'' holes should i just pay someone to come over with a bigger auger or will 12'' pads do

my opinion is, if 12'' won't do it, nothing will, i didn't use cookies to build mine with, unless you count the one i ate while building it :)
