I fabricate extended steel pillars for carport covers, patio covers, etc and a client would like his patio pillars extended from the existing header a few feet to about a foot from his pool. Problem is that the PVC lines that feed the pool, sauna and the hot water line from heater run along side the pool right where I would pour the footings for each pillar. The photo is an (amateurish) photo shop rendering. It shows the pillars crowding the pool instead of anchoring a foot closer to the house. I have a few suggestions and ideas but would like some more opinions. Im replacing the 4x4 pressure treated pillars that are mounted to the existing pad directly under the header with 14 gua 4x4 steel pillars as rendered.
How can I pour footings directly over the water lines? The goal is to gain more usable room on the patio pad which is coming soon. Thanks, in advance, for any ideas. A solution I'm considering is to take a 1 foot long section of sona tube, cut out about 4 or5 inches and position it over the pipes and digging on either side of the pipes so the footings would look like an inverted "Y" with the pipes accessible, protected by the sona tube sections. This house is in Palm Springs and the soil is all sand.
