Personnally, I like the Maximum screwdriver set, finish could be better but they are pretty durable, 30$ and lifetime warranty! Chromed wrench set is an awesome deal too. Woodworking clamp are pretty ****** though. What are your pass or fail from good ol' Mastercraft?

I'm still using most of my Maximum socket set from around 2003. Built and tore down a few cars, used breaker bars, snipes on the ratchets regularly, using the chromies as impacts for years. Been wrenching full time on trucks and equipment since 2012 and they're now worn out...but still holding on. I think I broke a single 21mm socket using a 24" breaker and a 16" pipe.

Can't say as to the quality of the current socket sets though.

Maximum combo wrench set from 2012, I think it's the 12pc that always went on sale for $25 or so is still holding up as well, surprisingly. Sees use every single day with double wrenching and pipes. Some of the open ends have opened up, the small stuff under 7/16 is basically useless as an open end, but they're still kickin.

Honestly I haven't bought tools there in about 5 years so I guess this doesn't really help, does it?

I think their wrenches and sockets are a good buy considering the price.

Screwdrivers are ok, I have a couple Mastercraft maximum ones I use regularly as beaters.

Pliers are ****, total chinesium only good for occasional homeowner use. Power tools are all junk, their angle grinders in particular are garbage.

I think there wrenches are a fail. Too flexy and mine are actually chipping. Compared them to half a dozen other brands and none of them are chipping. Impact sockets are a pass, a little thick and the shallows aren't stamped; but a pass none the less.

I find the Mastercraft Maximum wrenches from 5 to 6 years ago are decent wrenches for the price.

The older Mastercraft sockets with the sizes engraved on them, are surprisingly strong sockets.

I have broken the newer Maximum sockets with the laser etching. Also the sizes wear off quickly. Would not recommend them for HD equipment work.

Master craft premium wrenches are like ... Great! .... I use them pro style in one of the harshest environments on the planet. Never broke or damaged one yet. The chrome plating is not SO standard but the price is good. You can see wear on the plating just from being in the environment. Not worried about leaving one behind.

EDIT: The only MC Stuff I use is the wrenches. I have a the Flexy gearwrench set in service but that's a different story.

I agree. I've hit mine with 3 pound sledge hammers and they took it like a pro.

Me as well, except mine was a 10mm, and got beat on excessively. The wrench bent very slightly but still functions great 3years later
I thought about exchanging it, but I really abused that wrench, and it is obviously up to the task, so why get rid of it

I noticed some love for the old 'Professional Series' Mastercraft tools now and again. I dug around the toolbox and found I had more than I thought. Most of these date from the early to mid nineties and have served me well.

1/4 ratchet, 3/8 ratchet and 3/8 stubby flexhead. All with quick release. Combination wrenches, locking extensions, knurled wobble extensions, 1/4 drive handle. Also, 17 and 19mm combination wrenches and an 11mm stubby bought separately. I don't remember for what purpose! Also a rail of flare nut adapters -- rarely used. You can just make out 'PS' engraved on the flipped one.

Show yours!

I am in St John's Newfoundland and I have mostly ALL mastercraft tools (MC). I do a fair bit of wrenching on everything but i am not a PRO....

THE GOOD MC Items i will buy again as they have proved to be good value to me:
25' measuring tapes on sale $4
blue handle box cutter that take the blades $4
professional series and maximum wrenches with the stubby friends (not much on the stubby guys)
I also have the socket sets from the early 2000 that i still use (engraved or stamped)
Black impact socket set has taken a beating and holding up well (#'s are worn off)
Claw Hammers $4 perfect to loan to a helper or leave at the cabin
Ball peen hammer has not failed me yet
blue plastic tool box with the yellow removable bolt tray has been used and abused and after 8 years i think its time for a new one
MC heat gun
MC zip dremal tool
MC 4.5 Grinder

pliers get a OK they do what is needed
screw drivers are ok for the price
MC Blue work stand that the legs fold up inside comes as a set of 2
MC vice grips also OK

MC bench vice, i have broken a few times but no hassle on replacement

THE BAD

Line wrenches have not fit ANY lines so far that i had to remove

MC work mate work bench JUNK !

Box cutter gray handle that takes long blades that fit into a cartage in the handle

Their red stand up socket trays DO not include all the sizes i think some of the most common are missing
most of the tool kits cases fail on me
New etched sockets the deep ones are a joke ... they are more of a medium length

I use Mastercraft sockets at work. Being a field tech and losing tools on customer sites that are expensive kind of *****. So my SK/MAC etc sockets stay at home.

Carrying impact and chromed sockets, ***** too, especially when going up and down different levels or having to cross a half a kilometer long warehouse. So I only keep on me chromed sockets.

They hold up in my 1/2" Dewalt 20V Impact gun. As do the hex bit sockets Mastercraft makes.

In my toolbox at work, the only MC tools I have are a set of 1/2 drive, long internal torx bits that often went on sale. The very first time I used it, I shattered the tip right off a T-45.

The only other MC tool I still have outside of work is a set of their carbide-toothed hole-saws. Yes, it cuts holes, but noticed one so far that has a tooth misaligned, created a larger hole and giving that one tooth accelerated wear.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Have bought a couple Maximum power tools.
* 14 inch abrasive chop saw. Bought it on sale with CT money when the model was discontinued. It performed poorly. I found the problem was the outboard washer was not properly contacting the cut off wheel and allowed slippage. Figuring what the heck, machined some material off the inboard washer and it worked OK after that. So conditional pass.
* 13 inch thickness planer. Used it recently for the first time and it did fairly well for a half dozen boards then the boards began binding during mid travel. Took the side panels off and cleaned and inspected everything. Couldn't find a smoking gun, so put it back together and it performed well. Perhaps shavings had bunged up the vertical travel on the drive roller. Jury is not out on this one.

Forgot to add a big fail:

Their bench top drill press. The first one lasted maybe 30 minutes of total run time. The motor just stalled out. Took the unit back to CT to have them get it serviced. CT let me exchange it for a new one. During assembly of the new one, I noticed the hand crank for the rack was binding. I took the unit back and told them I want a full refund.
Don't bother with those things unless you want to waste your precious time.

Most of my tools are MasterCraft either presently or previously. They all work to my capabilities (or better). You get what you pay for, and they are good enough for me.

Ratchets are not my favorite, I use them but prefer my Princess Auto composite handled ratchets or my SK ratchet.

When I grow up I'll change screwdrivers (I have the set with 20 gazillion screwdrivers).

Pliers have already been relegated to lower tier, replaced by Channellock.

I have a drill press (slow to start in winder but works) and a mitre saw (good enough for rough cutting I typically do).

Pretty much 'pass' for everything.

I'm in agreement with most of the posts here. Combo wrenches - good. Their current Taiwan ratches - good. Sockets - good. Screwdrivers - Fair to good. Previous China ratchets - Terrible. Pliers of any kind - Terrible. Power tools - Worse than terrible. Other gimmick ******** tools - Terrible.
