I have seen them, they are really nice and actually a guy a work with is going to build something exactly like the cover pic, down at the lake for his lake house/barn/shop/boat storage.

I’ve been considering it actually, though it won’t resemble any of the ones on the Morton website as it will temp living until we decide on an actual house. But it also depends on if we move out to my property away from the city.
I am doing that right now, we just talked about selling our house and sold it (wasn't actually for sale just yet) but we were planning on building this spring anyway. So I finished one end of my barn- where we are going to build our house. I have a mini split and a wood stove, we have a bath with hot water, the accommodations are not really that bad, but its just me, the wife and our 80# beast. Kids have all bought houses and moved out and we didn't need that big of a house.

I've looked through some of those before. It's always interesting seeing what people build/have built for a home. I do wonder how much some of them spend on their homes.

About $200,000 not as cheap as I thought it would be.

They certainly put up a great looking building that's for sure.
I am putting the finishing touches on a 1k sqft living area with a 40x40 shop all wrapped up in a pole barn. The pole barn shop/house cost about 100k but that figure also includes 21k in power, septic, and a well drilled on the property. I did 10' ceilings, high end laminate floors, nice finishes all around. Could have cut 15k off the price if I had gone much more basic and not done spray foam and such.

I lived in mine about 18 months while we hired a contractor and built our house. I would live in it again if I had to.
Some of the county's here in Southern MN have decided to change their Zoning laws and too not allow "Pole Building" style houses. Many cities will not allow them to be built as garages unless they have a horizontal siding to it doesn't look like a pole building.

Not that bad compared to what is being built around me.
Originally I was planning on doing a bunch myself, like the infloor heat, the painting, the tile work to save a few bucks and because I know how to do it but I fell in February at work and broke my wrist bad enough to need surgery a few days later and wrecked my rotator cuff and surgery a couple months later and I was on light duty at work for a year.
Although we did put a $100,000 down and our goal is to pay it off in five years.

The 2 big questions I have since were approaching senior status and looking to downsize IS: how does one finance and insure a building of that nature? Just like a home and who lends on these other than the actual companies that build these?

We will be living in 950 sq foot of ours while our main home is being built. With a upstairs bedroom it should push about 1300 sq foot total living space.
After the main home is built we will use the living barn living space for friends and relatives to stay for free.
I just couldn't see giving an apartment complex $7-8k to live there while the house is being built. This way I will be able to easily nib nose the house construction every day.

We have a mortgage from a bank and State Farm insurance. The two companies that build these that we got prices from do not offer financing.

If I were single and alone, that's exactly what I would do. Have a nice big garage and park a nice camper inside. Best of both worlds.

there was a 24x30 on the local real estate market for at least a year, it was a newer barn but not a very nice conversion. the realtor advertised at as one level living for $99K. I feel the same way about a double wide on a foundation, just because you can doesn't mean you should.
if I were considering a pole barn house, which I never would, any cost savings would be offset by Morton's prices.
what about vinyl board and batten?

Jamie (pretty sure her name) worked with me. Nice to deal with. Bought most of the inside framing stuff from there, too. Paul's brother (forgot his name) was the crew chief on the build. Before the deal was struck, they happily gave me a couple names and addresses of buildings previously erected. Plus, a guy I worked with had one that was one the property when he moved on it. Was about 10 years old. The man door shut smoothly and squarely.
