I have a couple hundred feet of 1" PE gas pipe that I'm thinking of using to run water from my house to my new shop in trench. Any reason not to use it? I figure I can save a few bucks instead of buying a 100' of pex.

I think gastight the yellow stuff is only rated only for 65psi. Not sure what brand you are thinking of using? Should be marked on the pipe or have an ASTM number to verify.

Im not sure what it is rated for. But I know at least 60 psi in running through it all the time. I wouldn't think it would be used that close to a limit of 65psi

Is it rated for potable water service? If yes, great. If not, you have a big problem.

I suspect your best choice is to sell the gas tube and buy the PEX.

Glad to see you're going with proper plastic pipe for water.

If you simply can't sell the yellow plastic PE pipe for NG, it could be last resort used for low voltage stuff like CATV, CAT5e, security, etc. Problem will be everyone thinks it's NG because of it's yellow color. I'd spray paint everything gray above ground.
