Wondering, what your'e opinion is of the Canadian Tire Flyers ads concerning the posted Manufacturers List price?
Some of the discounts on their sale items in the flyers seem a bit overblown to me.

Like on sale for only $125.00, our regular list price $399.00.

Your'e opinion?

I don't buy anything from Cambodian Tire unless it's 60-75% off. Gotta love the e-mailed flier. Even at those prices I'm somewhat selective about what I'll buy but anything with a lifetime warranty is a no-brainer!

The thing I find funny about it is say their ~90pc? impact socket set goes on sale(the huge one in the blow moulded case which contains basically everything you would need) for $89.99 - reg. $299.99....which is a steal of a deal compared to basically anything else out there I have one myself and they are awesome. But then for the next two weeks on Kijiji you see a bunch of them for sale for $200 or something like the Bozo thinks nobody else knows what they sell for when they are on sale...it makes me laugh every time.

As far as the manufacturers price being so high compared to the sale price it doesn't bother me a bit because I know not to buy anything unless it's the lowest price it goes for. It also probably helps them sell it for a lower sale price when joe blow goes in and thinks he's getting a good deal at full price or 20% off.

Love the store, love the convenience & the warranty and MOST of the tools are more then good enough.

OMG I've bitched about this plenty! Either they think everyone is a complete idiot - or ........
The HYPER-inflated "regular prices are just ridiculous. Does anyone actually buy at those prices? Then they say 60% OFF or something...

I don't shop at WalMart (for a lot of reasons) and being "Canadian Tire" I can overlook a lot, but it's gotten so bad over the years that I've had to stop reading the weekly flyers because they just piss me off now!

I just read the above post! I've never seen stuff being re-sold on Kijiji but that is hilarious!!

Canadian tire is frustrating to shop at because if you ever buy anything at "regular price" you know you are getting the shaft. Sure there is some good deals but I generally buy what I need so it is very hit or miss.

^^^ Agreed.

Every tool seems to come on sale every second month.
The tools themselves aren't great, but I'll buy a couple just for the lifetime warrenty.
The 49 piece Impact Socket set and 24" Breaker Bars are the best value, IMO. I have, however, replaced them 3 times.
With my local Crappy Tire, I'll bring in the entire Impact Socket set, just to replace one cracked impact driver bit, and they will replace the entire set, no questions asked.

I seem to spend the most money there on stocking stuffers... $15 for a 6 piece, lifetime warren-tied set of pliers?.... Perfect for the father in law!

It all depends on the wholesale price. CT gets big discount when ordering sale items just because of the amount they order. Ex, MSRP could be $200, CT sells at $230. When they order a product on sale they might get it for $75 and sell it for $125. This is even greater for in house brands like Mastercraft, even though a lot of their tools are sourced from other manufacturers.

A colleague of mine was at school for his MBA and one of the CT VPs was in his class and they were talking about the sales pricing. The story is for those items sold at a heavily discounted sales price CT buys a large volume of the items and then sells them at very low margin which requires large sales volumes to make money. Normally the store franchisee can pick and choose which items they stock but the on these heavily discounted items they do not get a choice.

In my opinion,, to me these deep discounted items appear to be part a "Tool Wars" Thing going on against other sellers.
One thing i will say, tools have never been so cheap, i have never seen anything like this over the past decades, i keep saying there is no reason for an average homeowner not to have a basic tool set now.
Re: the post about re-selling the tools,, i know a guy who has a "Used Stuff" store.
He will buy sets of this and that then mark it up and re-sell them,,, how much he is reselling i'm not sure, but i doubt it is a great amount.

I was just about to ask (again) if ANYONE would purchase any of the sets at the "RETAIL" or "SUGG. MFR" prices....BUT...... it would seem their RETAIL prices are not out of line at all - they are actually a GOOD VALUE, especially with the Lifetime Warranty:

Mastercraft Maximum 7-Piece Universal Ratcheting Wrench Set Reg $99.99.
(I bought these on-sale for $27.99!)

vs.
Snap On Set $199.95
MAC $169.99
GearWrench $62.49

So there we go. A Good Value at the Retail Price....an INCREDIBLE value at the sale prices! GO CANADIAN TIRE! :rocker:

What's funny, is the mastercraft ratcheting wrenches are made by Gearwrench, but people will still go buy gearwrench elsewhere for the higher prices...lol :eyecrazy:

Theres a tonne of things that look identical to what gear wrench sells, for 1/2 the cost... :rocker: The 9pc locking extensions go on sale for $29.99, and if you bought them off the gear wrench website it is well over $100...and fairly obvious that they are the same. Not to mention the lifetime warranty where you walk in with a broken part and out with a new one in under 5 minutes all day long.
