I'm looking for a 16' x 18" Ankmar RP 138 garage door panel (raised, white, in a perfect world!). Local vendor says Ankmar is no longer manufacturing, and as such, this panel is not available. I'm hoping someone out there in Garage Door Land can guide me towards a place to find a 16' RP 138 panel (18" height, prefer white), or one that is compatible with the rest of the garage door (RP 138 in white). "classic raised" panel design.

The door is currently a 16'x7'. We've raised the header, and created a framework for a 16'x8.5' door. I have a CNC mill that I need to move in, and the 7' height won't cut it. We went in an 8' door in my current shop, and it literally brushed the garage door wipe/seal on the way in!

Currently has (4) 21" panels. I need an 18" panel to get my extra 18" of height. I'm not concerned about differences in appearance from the interior...just the exterior. I realize the 18" panel is likely to have a "squished" (shortened) panel accent, compared to it's 21" cousin.

While not my house, this is essentially my door:

I would essentially like to add an 18" panel from a door like this, to the top:

Check with DH Pace Co., I think they bought the Ankmar line of doors out. You might also try Clopay they sell through Menard's an 1 3/8" thick, model SDP 38 raised panel door. I'm not sure how the panels will fit together you'll have to verify if the tongue n grooves are the same. You'll also need to extend both horizontal and verticals tracks as well as longer cables, new drums and re spring the door for the added weight. Good luck.

So to RECAP . . . You've got 4 panels 21" tall . . .
. . . . .
. . . . . . . . and you want to add 18" panel that matches exactly ??
. . . . .
. . . . . . . . from a door that is no longer manufactured ??

This will be a "needle in haystack" attempt for sure. You'll need database of all dealers who ever sold that particular door. Then begin calling HUNDREDS of them and checking whether their "Bone Pile" just happens to have an exactly matching panel you want. Good luck as I'm guessing the groove between the 2 panels will not match up.

Likely better plan to buy new door you want, and sell existing door on CL.

Most likely outcome, but asking is free, isn't it? :D I've got a few feelers out with dealers. If nothing compatible is found, we'll just put in a new door. Not the preferred option, but the likely one, I imagine.

Where are you located?

Literally about the only way you are going to find one of those panels is to find someone replacing a door. No other panels on the market are compatible with that panel. Pretty much every dead stock panel has been trashed or used by this point, and it has been like 7 years since they went out of business. By the time you have to replace everything else such as the track, springs, cables, drums, you might as well just buy a new door.

To nobody's surprise, I'm sure, I ended up replacing the entire door with a new 8.5' unit. The garage door company kindly offered to "scrap" my old one for me, but I had them leave it. I'm going to put the whole thing on Craigslist and try to recoup some money. I picked up a 10' rail and chain for my opener, which I plan to re-install in the next few days.
