....I've had garages before, and over 20 years, tried to make them better. Failed miserably, most of the time, and unless you're starting with a new floor, epoxy's etc don't always work, or, painted systems need renewing.
Basically, I coudn't find the time/heart to redo them, later, so they degenerated.........I found painted floors took tyre marks from hot tyres, and when wet, well, not the most surefooted or safe.
Of course that's the problem around here.........it's wet most of the time!
So, in our new house, in our 20 x 16 parking garage, I vowed to do something different. I noticed some of the car showrooms and workshops had tiles. Most workshops with tiles had 6" square, teracotta red. Which I didn't want btw.
In the end, about 6 mths after getting into the house, I came across the perfect one: Porcelain non slip, 12" x 12", rated for H-D use. Got them as a job lot from a tile shop for about €300 iirc..........and got the tiler to put them down f.o.c. as a 'thank you' for the rest of the house (most, tiled, everywhere)
I was concerned it'd crack at the edge as tyres rolled up.........nope, doesn't. I was concerned it'd be slippy when wet......nope, not really, although I did lock the front wheel of the RK one evening not thinking....
I was really concerned about using trolley jacks, etc. Nope, complete false alarm. Now, I don't go making a point of testing it with violence/4lb hammers, but so far it has more than exceeded my expectations......and it's great for cleanliness, keeping dusty footprints out of the house.
Moral? should have done it years ago !!
Oh: and one tip: I had tiles cut in half and used as a skirting tile too: tough, spill-and stain proof, and cheap !
Anyhoo, here's the finished article.........one w/toys
