For those with NWS needlenose

Mine has been sitting in my chest unused - just got them recently.

I noticed the ends don't fully meet . It's a mm or so of space between the 2 jaws. Anybody care to look and yours and confirm if that's the case..

Ended up using a different pair of NN as that much *space* made the difference in either being able to grab what I needed or not...

I've got a NWS 140-49-170 needlenose. The ends touch on mine, well actually the teeth meet. It would be better if the teeth of each jaw actually meshed together like gears do.

Now you got me wondering. I'll have to go look at some of the Snap-on, Knipex, Schmitz, Klein and Keiba stuff I have.

Just looked at my angled NWS NN. The jaws meet tigher than the straight posted in the pic

I think this is typical of most long nose pliers with cutters. The gap allows the cutting knives to come together without crushing them. I won't buy long nose pliers with cutters. Doing electrical work means being able to hold wires and small parts securely. Does NWS make any long nose without cutters?

Phog is correct. Its because of the wire cutter. Every pair of nn with cutters i have are the same. And they are multiple different brands. If u want ends that touch buy a pair of non cutter type. Knipex makes a nice pair.

Agree, the issues is with the cutter. Otherwise the tolerance in manufacturing would have to be increased. Have those been used to cut quite a few things? It looks like they have indent marks on the blades from cutting something hard?

Here's mine, side by side with my Knipex. The jaws of the NWS splayed out slightly at the tips might be from me gorilla gripping something or they might've been that way new, I'm not sure. I didn't really give them the once over before I started using them.

Disagree here with the above. I have 2 pairs of NWS needle nose (w/ cutters) and they meet just fine at the tips. They are however not the straight version like mentioned. One is bent tip and the other is bent handle. It may just be how they do the straight version, but it is not because of having the cutters integrated in them.

To get more gripping power on small or soft items. If the teeth properly mesh you have a negative clearance range for thin items to be held compared to having the possibility of teeth touching before the work piece is full gripped.

It's a manufacturing tolerance cost cutting measure.

The needle nose tips should touch before the cutters.

I can pick up a tiny thread with my SO Talon Grips and Kleins.
