I picked up a torpedo style DESA heater as an untested project. Finally got a chance to take a look at it and the ignition transformer for the old spark plug system is shot. Those transformers are stupid expensive so I was wondering if anyone has ever converted one to a heat strip style.
DESA rereleased my heater a few years later with a HSI so it seems like it should be possible. Both the transformer and the HSI are 120v so it seems like it might even just snap right together after I modify the bracket.
And before you mention it, yes I know it isn't worth fixing it. The fixing it is the hobby for me. I'm the equivalent of a woodworker spending twice as much to build a table instead of buy one. I want to fix it because you can't/won't and that gives me my sense of accomplishment and that endorphin shot that comes along with knowing that I am better than you.
