I start my first job out of diesel tech school soon. I would like to know what kind of specialty tools a learning tech may need working on a Ford 6.0 and where to buy them. Thanks for all of you help...

Hope you have about hundreds dollars to buy special tools and spare parts to make better testers.. I has many tools that can do those works but I use it on gas vehicles too.

Best tool you will need to be :patient..... I has seen too many trucks come here from other shops that tried to do fast and shortcut in wrong way that cause more headaches.

Hot damn I love them motors.....they've made me a ton of money I'm doing a long block now. I've made a career out of being the guy who loves working on them in e series van chassis. Allen and torn sockets are a must I made a set of sockets for doing injectors pm me and I can tell you how to make them if you want. The injector plug disconnect tool is pretty good or you can use a 18mm chrome 12 point socket. Honestly they make ipr and icp sensor sockets but I've never had to have them a 1 3/8 wrench and a 15/16 wrench do just fine.get used to doing injectors, egr coolers and valves, oil coolers, head gaskets and cams.

Hahahaha I agree ^. ICP air fittings for early 03 and later 04-07. You can use a socket but the injector connector tool to push the connector through the rocker box. Early 03 and early 04 have the icp in the back by the ipr. We have a homemade deal to take them out. IPR socket, i made a FICM tester using a resistor dont remember how.many ohms tho.

More gas and more flares.....

As far as specialty tools, you might want to look at OTC's website as well as snap on and matcos online catalogs.

Get ready to do egr coolers one right after the freaking other.

But I would just go to work with your basic tools as they will do 95% of the work and soak up the older knowledge and ask them what you really need.

Nice powerstroke tech I forgot the early builds oil disconnect tool I don't see to many of them anymore. I made a pressure test fitting with an oil passage plug and air fitting for air testing the high pressure oil system on 06 and up. I also do the socket to push the injector connector in the rocker box.

Those little wrenches that come with your die grinder work perfect as a disconnect tool on the early ones.

The 6.0 is a product frought with enginering malfunctions. Ford Motor Co. Has actively sold this motor, including expensive extended warrenties. Ford, as far as I am concerned, including its leader have no honor.

I own several of the 6.0 pices of ****. Even with a continual & very **** service program,
they are for any long term, just so much scrap metal. They do run great for a short time, pretty decent mileage, good power band. Just not for long!

I think the VT365 is a little bit more reliable in the IHCs than the 6.0 Fords.

I also use a 15/16 12 point flare nut socket for the discharge pipe on the HEUI pump. That is something you will run into.
