Ford PATS Key programming software?

Anyone know of any affordable Ford PATS Key programming software for programming "Chipped" Ford keys? I just had to pay $65 to have a key made for my Lincoln. Would be cool if it could integrate with existing OBD II programs.

IIRC ... If you have 2 working keys, you can do it yourself. The directions are in the owners manual.

Thanks guys, I was forced to have Home Depot program me a 2nd key because I only had 1 and then he "cut" me a third key so I could program it myself. Was just looking for a way to program the 2nd key for when you only have 1.

If you've only got a single key, and you don't want to go to the dealer or locksmith-type place that has a cloning machine, there's a number of scan tools that will apparently do this.

Autoenginuity has a process for this, but the only time I've tried it, it failed - though, I think it was more due to the knock-off pink PATS keys my sister bought off eBay for her Mustang than an issue with AE.

I know that you can't program a 3rd key if you had a hardware store clone you a second one. What they do, is copy the code on your original key onto the clone. Your car ECU won't know the difference between the first and second key you put in, so it won't program the 3rd one. You have to have two unique keys to program a 3rd.

Ok. I'm curious. Not wanting to spend the money for all the manufacturer pass thru systems...is this elm27 all its cracked up to be? Can I buy a decent laptop and a $100 adaptor to replace a solus, tech 2, etc... I know I can't expect everything, but I do have a lot of keys to program (auction cars) and wonder if this would be a good option. School me please!

A bit off topic, but thought I'd add my 2 cents...

A lot of the newer ford vehicles from 2013/2014 and forward use a different process to gain security access and program more keys from what happened in the past. For example, I did a 2014 fusion and instead of waiting 10 minutes for pats security, you instead have to have a valid FMCdealer login and then you immediately then can add/remove programmed keys, etc. This is especially true for vehicles that only have a "remote transmitter" keyless type ignition (ie, push button). It will be alot more difficult for the aftermarket to clone keys and the like if they dont have FMCdealer logins.

I usually buy extra keys and go through the process in the book when I first buy the car. I bought the flip keyts for my mustang and just bought some keys for my Honda but haven't programmed them yet.

Do you know if you have to erase old keys first, and then program? I tried adding extra key without erase, but that didn´t work. And a bit worried to erase since I only have one working key now and could potentially end up with an undrivable car...

yes, it is all it's cracked up to be. lots of free or very inexpensive software out there for laptops and phones alike. works like a charm on my old laptop.
scanmaster, scantool, scanxl, datamaster, tunerpro, etc...I think the disc it comes with has 30+ programs on it.

I don't work on fords much, but I have heard of forscan, and have a webpage from their forums saved where they explain how to mod the ELM327 to access MS-CAN bus on some ford/Mazda's in case I ever need to do that...

PATS is ultimately just a hassle. There's a guy on FTE who can disable, but you gotta send him your PCM. I've been meaning to do this.

The whole "token" thing for locksmiths to copy a key feels like a Teamsters scam. WHO exactly issues or controls these tokens and WHY them and not someone else?

On the bubble bodies in particular the PATS system can fail even with a good key (or ring in the steering column if you did that) and then getting the vehicle started again EVER can be a serious hassle.

PATS failed on my daily driver decades ago, what a pain in the *** that was . Had to do this trick, leave key in the run position until anti-theft light stopped blinking, which took a couple minutes and then it would let car start.

I have successfully programmed a new PATS key without Ford or special software.
- New key cut to fit colum/tumbler assembly using an existing key. Had done at HD but any place that can cut a key will work.
- Program new key PATS using Ford vehicle and 2 existing/already programmed keys. Don’t remember the sequence off at moment but it was super easy, programmed the new key in HD parking lot after being cut. Google for PATS programming sequence will give you what is needed.

We do these often, either with a cloner or the Smart Pro. Software/tokens/programmer are not cheap, but it's a cost of doing business.

Sorry if this is off topic, but my 2019 Ford Escape with keyless entry has started showing "Ford KeyFree No Key Detected" when I try to start it. I have to place the fob in the console tray forward of the shifter for a bit for the vehicle and fob to "shake hands electronically" and then it will start as normal. Time to replace the battery in the fob?

There is also an option for aftermarket repair facilities but I think you have to have an account. That’s with the Ford IDS program.
