So here I am nearing the end of my wife's V8 Volvo swap.
Many loose ends but light at the end of the tunnel. What I am trying to figure out now is how do I get the proper speedo drive gear to spin a cable?
The 4RW70 from a 2WD 2000 Explorer never had a cable.
I added an AOD tail shaft housing so I could use a smaller yoke.
see pics here.... http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/showpost.php?p=4482393&postcount=79

This will be hard to ask a parts guy what I need because I don't know the best place to start. Hoping this is easy for someone (smarter than me) to point me in the right direction.

The speedo shop I spoke to doesn't do any internal work but seemed to think it would be cake for them once I get the "drive" gear installed.
I'm thinking there would be more than one.

Where to start?

I've rather enjoyed the past few weeks of going to the local auto parts stores getting parts for the 9" rear..

I feel your pain.

How about converting to a GPS speedometer. No longer need a speedo cable then

Bob

May have to, already have the cable hooked to the speedo, thinking that mine would be the same as my buddy Test Point author of a complete how-to 5.0 Volvo swap. http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=272683

Funny how mine seems to have a smooth ring instead of a drive gear, which makes sense due to the Explorer being electronic. But why would one have gears and another not? The joys of custom work. :headscrat

Prefer the easy (cheaper) route. Easy route! Real funny huh! :D

The 4R70W still has the drive gear. I see it in your picture. Here is a picture.

The top shaft is yours. You just need to get a cable driven sender, not an electronic one. Even if the sender is electronic, it still drives off of that gear. There are different numbers of teeth on the drive and driven side, you just have to figure out the right combination.

If you can't find it locally, those guys should be able to help.

Thanks jstroede! I guess I was stuck thinking it was in place of the sleeve on the shaft in my picture.
I think my buddy TP already told me this. And then again in a recent e-mail.
About that time I found this... speedo.jpg

I am often my own worse enemy!:D

i too feel your pain.....

i get the "deer in the headlights look" all the time....

i went to the parts store and asked for a set of universal v-8 plug wires with straight boots...
the kid behind the counter started asking the typical questions, year, make ,model, 2 or 4 wheel drive, what engine. i played along with him..

'88 s-10 blazer, but the engine is out of a '91 astro.... :dunno:

4 wheel drive, but the axles are out of a '91 jeep wrangler.... :eyecrazy:

4.3 TBI v-6

no, i need plug wires for a v-8, i have a remote mounted coil.... :wtf:

after 10 minutes of him looking really confused and typing on the computer, i gave him the PN for the wire set i wanted...

i paid for my stuff, and as i walked out he was still standing there with the same look on his face...:shocking:
