Once again I have found another sledge with a mystery forge mark. I have never seen a mark like this before. Looks to me like E K Co. (Ekco.) but I can't find any info on Ekco making hammers. Only the forge/company mark and the number 4. Any ideas?

That's not an "E", it's the left portion of a badly stamped "shield". I don't know who it belongs to.

Does the sledge coincidentally happen to weigh 4 pounds?

Try asking over on the hammer thread:

Think I have it now with the help of steaks&anvils mentioning the logo being a shield. K L or K& L. Klein Logan Co. of Pittsburgh PA. Makers of Picks railroad tools etc. Klein Logan used a shield logo. As steak&anvil stated the stamping was poor and incomplete.

Looks like you got it! Glad to help.

New handle and that sledge will last another life time.
