Forging a knife blank

Finally had some time to fire up the forge last week, of course my kids wanted me to make a knife.

I have a bucket of old dull files that I have picked up over the years so I started with a broken one and forged it into rough shape.

Looking forward to seeing what you make.

2 things I have learned so far.
1 swinging 2 and 3 pound hammers accurately is a lot of work.
2 the forge is hella hot.

another great video . I haven't lit my forge for 2 years now due to shoulder problems . try an old coil spring for blades lots of blades from 1 spring . keep up the good work

I have a stock pile of old springs both coil and flat, plus a few coils of wire rope and other stuff for future endeavors with the forge and anvil.

Tip, weld a length of hex bar to the tang of the piece as a handle instead of tongs, much easier to securely control.
