I was at the local Sears store and I have been in need of some 1/2 drive metric impact sockets. They were on sale for $69, plus took another 15% off for some club. These were NOS made in the USA so I bought them.
I started buying Craftsman when I got out of High School in the 80's and none have failed me so far as home use. I must confess that in my age the only stuff I have been buying is used Snap On. I refuse to buy Chi-Com **** labeled Craftsman. If one breaks, it will be replaced by Snap On.

Of the three Sears Stores within a 50 mile radius, all are Chi-Com impacts. I did see some locking flex ratcheting full polish wrenches here that were still US made. Thinking an picking those up too.

Funny how a simple forum such as this can make you feel like a schmuck for purchasing a product!
I too "sinned" last week and purchased a 2nd set of 3/8 drive metrics for my garage tool box.
Like you, I too have been using a lot of Craftsman since the 1960's and my father did so before Me, all with an extremely good service record.

You are forgiven my son. (at least by me)

The sinning part is this: 1 USA made set gone, to be replaced by a Chi-Com set. I feel bad for doing it because I know Sears will replace it with Chi-Com stuff.
I have always looked at Craftsman at a high to mid level tool. Not on par with the truck brands in price, but far ahead of the Great Neck or Buffalo tools from the 1980's China.
I gladly paid more for it. Now I will pay more for the truck brands.....

By buying all the US-made sets and leaving the non-US made tools on the shelves collecting dust, we are sending a message to the decision makers at Sears.

Thank you for your support. :)

Yep - I got the last USA deep sets my store had and now they are all chineese so I guess I timed it right. I also got them at about 50% off so no complaints here.

By filling out their surveys on the website is a smart thing to do. I filled one out yesterday and it was way more indepth about Sears than before. Maybe they are starting to listen. :dunno:

I'm not trying to disappoint you hear but but we are not really selling a message. Say there are 4 of the same products on a shelf. 1 usa, 3 china.
Say at the end of the month 2 china is gone and that leaves the 1 usa and 1 china. Stock get reordered and when the stock get replace the USA one get moved to the front. End of the month 3 are gone. 1 china is all that is left and 3 china ones get restocked. Point is Sears doesn't car about the COO, they care about moving the product. I wish this wasn't the way it is but its business and money talks. If you really want to send them a message what we could really do is everyone on the Garage Journal could send them a message in 1 Day and show or disrespect they have to the Craftsman brand.

Sockets are one thing craftsman has always made good. Their chrome to this day in my book are good sockets. I use to have craftsman impacts and they where tough sockets, maybe a little on the thick side. Never broke one. I made the ulimate sin, I sold them to my buddy and replaced them with sunnex. My biggest complaint with craftsman is the limited size range.

I bought a couple of Craftsman 18" half inch drive breaker bars recently, NOS so still USA
I just wanted to have the extra 3" from most of the others in the price range that I can get ie Allen is only 15". Got one for my older son and one for my younger, still contemplating getting a third for my road box. So forgive me also :)
