Picked up another Pittsburg Pro 3/8" swivel head ratchet from HF today after dissecting my first one. Since I plan on keeping this one intact and using it, I wanted to swap the HF green handle for something a little more comfortable.

Pulled the green handle off. Disassembled a B1356E brake tool and bored the handle out using a 15/32" drill for a -0.005" press fit for this particular ratchet.

Snap-On hard handle on a Taiwan-made Harbor Freight ratchet. Hope I don't get struck down by lightning!:lol_hitti

I'm sure that some people are now making voodoo dolls representing you into which they will stick pins and needles in your southern regions.

But wtf, it's your right to modify your tools as you please!

Put it on ebay and see what you get, then when it ends tell them you can't in good morals take their money

Dear Dr. stang;

Is there a contingency plan should the so-called patient reject the "donor appendage" due to its inability to speak Madarin Chinese?

Sincerely,
Sir Stanley "Mac" Toolvius

Meh, nothing wrong with improving a tool. How are those Pittsburgh tools anyway?

That would be interesting to take that back to Harbor Freight with the Snap-On handle left on it! LOL! I can see it now... "I'm sorry sir, that is not our brand ratchet!" :)

I would never do that, just about anyone who buys snap-on would catch it right away anyway. I had som obsolete carb tools and thought it would be fun.

Here is one I did a few minutes ago. Snap-On or Gearwrench doesn't make a 1/2 roto ratchet. HF has one (as did I) and my son has used one working in a Toyota dealership for a few years so I guess they work OK. I took one of my hard handles and fit it to it. Now I have the 1/2 version, lol

A lot bigger than it looks

Hey,,,,, I like it. I have 2 file cabinet drawers full of ratchet drives. So, I will look around and find a suitable handle. Then go visit a HF. Nearest one to me is 60 miles away. Northern tool is 55 miles away.
Snap-On tools are nice. I have a lot of them, primarily old ones I find at garage sales, and the ones I have kept over 50 years of buying things for my car.
But, you know, I haven't seen any engineering report on the strength of tools that make the super expensive "truck" tools any better or stronger than the ones made outside the USA.
But I buy lots of used USA made tools, just like today where I stopped at a roadside vendor in a wide space on the highway and bought 10 dollars worth of wrenches, punches, extension, brushes, etc., all USA made. That is what I do. I find older USA tools. And I have a great time doing this.

I think I may take a 1/4 raised panel and machine the handle down and put a Craftsman Clear Handle on it.

I had actually considered doing something like that, too, but just wasn't sure if it would look right when I was done.

If it doesn't look right I'll just take it back to Sears and have them warranty both peices:lol_hitti:lol_hitti
