Yet another brand whom has spoiled their reputation of years past. IIRC those are made by century. Better than some, worse than others. You might have been able to do better on the used market, but would have been looking at ~2x that to step into anything from the big name makers new.

They USED to be good, used to be one of the better welders, I have an old stick welder that came out if the International Harvester plant in Fort Wayne.

Hobart makes a better one doesn't cost much more than that. This is a tough way o get into welding. It really should be about 1500 entry level, maybe a bit less with power shopping but you would hit it running and not look back, use it multiples farther than you predicted.

Welcome to the Out-Source America Corp Greed Trash via "The Cheap Chinese Express.

Some "Marketing Wiz Kid" tucked away in some obscure cubical on the 22nd floor of a Manhattan high rise, looking to claw his way up the corporate ladder. Whom never in his entire life so much as turned a screw driver. Thought it would be a good idea since the Conglomerate he works for gobbled up the "Forney" name to have these welders outsourced to a remote village of China where untrained workers assemble them in a cluttered barn with the banner proudly displayed "Screw You Yankee Dog"

Starting to get the picture now

These welders are made in Italy...

It's problem is that it's a cheap flux core machine, generally they are mediocre (at best) welders due to being a compromise to meet a price point.

Consumer demand is what drives the cost point of DIY class welders like these. People want a welder but want to spend as little as possible, hence you get poor choices like this. But hey, they saved a buck or two, and that's what's most important to some...

“Sorry that you were not satisfied with the performance of the Forney 95 Amp Flux Only Welder you purchased. This is designed for very light duty home-owner type jobs. Forney does offer several units that match up and outperform many other welders in this class. When you’re ready for your next welder purchase, consider our MP Series!
Please Also note:

Forney has been family owned & operated since 1932
Welders Manufactured in Italy (never from China).
Mfg has been in business for over 40 years.
Italians invented the small – suitcase welders.
USA mfg’s are copy-cats.

I had one of those once, branded Clarke. It was terrible, both for performance and longevity.

It was amazing how much better my welding skills got the minute I picked up a Miller MIG gun :lol_hitti

Glad to see Forney is still around. I had one that doubled as a battery charger and was very explicit on the front for which taps to use to braze, etc. One of the better welders I have had, and I’ve owned quite a few over the years, from Miller, PowerKraft, Craftsman, Century, and currently a P&H and a Lincoln.

The older Forneys were very well made basic welders aimed at farmers who didn't need frills and could take the time to use taps instead of wheel adjusters. It is unfortunate they have abandoned quality in search of fast dollars.
