So, I picked up a Fortress 2 gallon Ultra Quiet compressor today. HF had them on sale, unfortunately I couldn't use the 15% off coupon on it (since it was on sale).

Really nice that it has two connections, so I could change out one of them (the end one) for the larger 3/8" type that I use on all my air tools/nailers:

What in the world do they put on those threads? This SOB was on tight, just like the one on the HF 30 gallon compressor I bought a few years ago.

I fired it up (to see if it works...), and it is very quiet. It's going to see use for my air nailers in the basement shop. But it's reasonably light, so when I need to do the upstairs trim (wife's project...), I can take it up to the second floor. Better than dragging 100' of air hose from my main compressor!

Neat, thanks for the review. I'm in the market for a replacement for my 3gal Kobalt compressor, which only really gets used for filling tires and running a brad nailer.

Let us know how it holds up longer-term, I've been back and forth on the HF compressors for a while. I've heard mixed thoughts on the pressure adjustment knob.

It’s common for manufacturers to use thread locker, aka Locktite on air fitting threads.

Apply a little heat with a propane torch and they spin right off.

Don’t apply heat and the threads or hex will be damaged, in all likelihood.

I would not remove the connector they are on there perfect mine The tank stays completely full. over two months


I would suggest just make a plug in adapter for the size you need

Welcome to the G.J. I bought one of those compressors and used it to build part of my western town. Unfortunately it stopped working after using it every day for 2 weeks less the weekends. H.F. gave me back my money after a little stern conversation.

Your welcome! They seem to go cheap on the gauges and knob. Definitely not as durable as the Shraders I have on my big compressor setup. If I get a few (3+) years out of it, I'll be satisfied. It sure beats dragging 150' of air hose upstairs to the second floor, or having to walk up the stairs from my basement then into the garage, to turn on the big 7.5hp IR.

Awww... Where's the fun in that? JK. I have an adapter made up, but I tend to Hack a lot of perfectly good things to do other good things... And since it has two connections, I left one alone. So now it's sort of 'dual purpose'...

It's not going to see a lot of continuous work. So, I'm hoping to get a few years out of it. I'm a Bostitch junkie, but I opted for the HF this time. I have one of the 'portable' HF 30 gal units at my lake house, and it's held up fine for the occasional use it gets (water toy fills, sprinkler blow out, tire inflation).

Yep. Definitely some sort of thread locker on there.
