Men, This has been on my mind for some time now. I know it's in the minds of a few other members as well. It would be nice to have a forum, where our wives could come in case the unthinkable happens. No one want's their wives getting ripped off when selling off their late husbands estate. IMO, GJ is a trusted community, with a great deal of member who are honest and have high integrity.

I for one, would be willing to step up and help in any way I could. I know there are other members who would step up as well. Nothing will beat a comprehensive price list made out before hand, but it's pretty tough to price absolutely everything. And that's where this forum would step in.

Ideas/opinions?

Thanks guys.

Already doing that, our neighbourhood is very neighbourly, a lot like living in a small center. I always have stuff on Kijiji, so it is no big deal to sell a few extra items.

A member could simply write down a few details like username/password so the widow(er) could log in and possibly contact a member's "friend" off their profile page.

If the significant other isn't sure how to do that, they could PM a Mod or Ryan for those instructions.

I suggest that members contact those on their friend list and see who would be willing to help out each other's spouse in case the ends to soon for one of us.

Do you have a Will ? Just put it in your Will how you want it dealt with by your other half or family. Best way is to Auction it all off as one it will go to some one that wants it and two some one will pay a good price for what they buy. Lets face it you are not going to be here to know the end result and in the finish your goodies you enjoyed if not kept by the family will go to some one that appreciates them.

As for forum access that can be easily dealt with as NUTTSGT stated.

This doesn't always work out for the best. I just had a long time friend pass away and the spouse couldn't deal with any of it. I stepped up to the plate and took care of most of it. A lot of people don't have wills for either cost or the time it takes to do them. I know it's not an excuse, but it's reality for a lot of people.

After the experience I just went through, which was a nightmare, I don't want anyones spouse to have to go through it alone. My friend was like us, with a TON of tools, Cars/trucks and equipment. I knew what everything was worth, and could imagine how lost a grieving loved one could get not having anyone to help. Maybe a specific forum isn't the answer, and i'm not sure what is.

As hotfr8 said, this is pretty solid advice.

Good on you for stepping in and helping and I can only agree with you as not every one is ready to deal with what has happened and then needs to happen after.

Having helped my Father through Moms passing at a young age, I completely agree with the sentiments that have come full circle that an online forum isn't really a place to plan your spouses support network when you're dead. There's a whole world of estate management and planning . Helping someone that shows up and says "my husband was (insert username) and I could use help with (insert items)" will probably solicit responses but they are still worth exactly what she pays for them. After all, it's a public forum.

Estate planning: If you don't do it while you're here, someone else will have to when you're gone. Get your will and trusts in order. If you're mature enough to make a child and/or marry, then you're mature enough to put together an estate plan; which should be crafted as a living document so long as you are a living body. There are plenty of boilerplate documents that can get you started. Consult an Attorney if you do not want them to turn into a point of contention between grieving family members. A cut and dry estate plan mostly mostly takes care of itself once you're gone and removes a huge burden off the families shoulders.

My Wife and I were discussing this just this last night due to an acquaintance that passed. We are both relatively young but we know where we stand on many outcomes. One of the biggest things that never gets discussed is advanced directives. Do you wan't be resuscitated repeatedly after brain damage? How about if one of you is starts developing alzheimers? Is their a set of circumstances you feel would change this? We actually had a somber discussion about cancer treatment outlooks advanced directives and realized we needed to update our estate plans. I don't like discussing this stuff one bit but it's got to happen before because laying the burden on someone else is a very unfair thing to do.

Currently I have trusts in place and durable power of attorney setup since I work in a field that happens to come with slightly higher risk than most but even with that risk, more danger statistically exists on the freeway drive than most people deal when they're actually on the job. Things like getting plowed on the highway do not discriminate against age, gender, creed, etc. Vehicles are assembled with hundreds of bolts. It only takes one nut behind the wheel to scatter them in every direction.

Maybe you have tomorrow, maybe you don't. Regardless of how you go, you're not going to make it off this Earth alive.
