Found a Dake

Just picked up this dake arbor press for $325. Missing the handle.

Does anybody know the length of the handle so I can fab a replacement? Thanks!

I have a similar but larger Atlas the handle is just a solid steel rod, measure the inside diameter of the hole and pick a length that works for you. I think my handle is about 30" FWIW

I had to reply because every time I see this thread I start to tear up. This is the situation, last week a Dake came up on Kijiji Montreal for sale. It was clean, based on the picure it actually looked new never used. Well I liked the price so I sent the seller an email because there was no telephone number, BELIEVE me I looked hard to find a phone number I even looked at some other stuff he/she had for sale on Kijiji. Why all the effort well I guess the time has come to tell you the price $50.00 for something that was in pristine condition. When I got an email informing me that it was sold I cried like a baby.LOL (not really, I just wanted to add some drama)

Use whatever you want, as long at it fits. You won't be disappointed once you get a nice arbor press. I bought this Famco a few years ago out of an outdoor machinery salvage yard. It was missing a lot. I used an old slaughter house meat-hook that I found for the arm extension. Cut the hook off and put it into my home-made ratchet arm. It works great. I do wish I could figure out a way to fabricate the missing handles on the ship's wheel tho.

Beautiful press--
On the wheel handles: Grind existing ones to the least height, leaving sort of a nodule [bed] for a bolt. Turn all six on a lathe with holes for the bolts to wheel. If it were mine, the handles would be solid brass and rotate as I pulled the wheel towards me.

My Dake 1-1/2 handle is 15" long from where it domes out of the mount.

A number of years ago I went to buy the old drill press behind it. The Dake was under his workbench. I asked about it and ended up bringing it home for $75.00.

Thanks Stanley. That's a great idea about the brass replacement handles. I don't want to cut the other 4 originals off but doing that on the 2 broken ones sounds good.

The handle size, 17" overall by .750 diameter.......nice little press.
