this is pretty local to me, what do you guys think?

http://baltimore.craigslist.org/tls/4550032321.html

Not bad at all. The jaws look good and probably comes out to about a $1/pound.

However there does look like to be a lot of other good ones selling in your hood around the same price so you may be able choose.

Here's an example, a big Yost $50: http://frederick.craigslist.org/tls/4545523612.html

Never heard of Ireland I think it's a typo it looks like it was made by "Rock Island" of Illinois. Or it's a Reed or Yost who also made Athol vises. Very possible it is a "Rock Island" vise, it looks like one. The round screw head is the same as an Athol and Rock Island and others vintage USA vises. It's definitely an old USA made non swivel vise.

Looks pretty beat up but not bad.
Any vise over 50lbs feels like 100lbs when trying to lift it. If the jaws are clean and do close fully flush against each other, there's no cracks and actually weighs 100lbs then yes that is a good price. Probably made in the early 1900's, a good time for vise.

The second one looks like an asian made copy. Some of them work well, some not so much and that one looks beat: Pass.

I actually saw this box a week ago, buying something else from the seller, when he was still cleaning it out.

It's in good shape, the photos make it look rougher than it is. The 'sticky' drawer isn't really that bad, slide probably just needs a little degreasing. Kicking myself that I don't have room for it, some GJ member has to get it! (and post pics)

No relation to the seller other than to say he's a good guy.

Nice find Thanks, That's a total steal. I recently sold the same mid box 1955 "KR_420" for $200 although they usually go for less. The bottom one, early 50's "KR-377A" is worth about the same. I would say a fair market price is about $350 especially in SF area

Thanks for the additional info, the seller held an item for me for a few days until I could get there, and am hoping I can pay him back somewhat by posting. I wrote to say I put the word out, and to tell him to slam the door in any lowballer's face. The box belonged to his uncle, a mechanic, who from what I could tell took damn good care of his tools.

I'm in Fairfield and I was looking at this ad yesterday. I'm at $50 but still am a little reluctant since like you no space since I just picked up a 377b set recently. :(

I saw your thread regarding the other box. Like everyone else I think you should restore that one, and take your time with it (I'd use single-stage urethane paint from Summit Racing, PM me if you want more info. Probably $60 in paint and activator and far tougher than Rustoleum.)

What I can tell you is this box is in a lot better shape than your current one. No chance the garage can hold both?

I'm all about members getting smoking hot deals but working the guy down to $50 is almost immoral. At $80 the guy is already selling it for too little, give him $80 and drive away happy.

I've been looking at this lol. We must be from the same area. I wonder what it was for

Looks like a hospital medical supply cart island that would be located/postioned between two bed/exam stations that can be accessed/shared by either side. I bet that thing saw some heavy action.

These US General Pro chest's are from Harbor Freight and are actually very good chests. I have a set and I'm very happy with it. You can search GJ for my review on it.

You can buy them with a coupon (search GJ for it) for $289 for the 26" top and bottom. This is the only second one I have seen for sale, they rarely ever come up for sale. I guess the people who have them are happy and keeping them. It's hard to beat them for the price.

Vidmar cabinet for $100 in Antioch CA.

"This is a heavily used tool cabinet. I purchased off of Craigslist a few years back and it has served its purpose well. It still functions just as it should, the drawers slide great. The only drawback is the exterior abuse... When I got it I cleaned up the inside of the drawers and primed for paint. The price is $100. For an extra $40 I have all brand new handle purchased for vidmar.
Thanks for looking."
