Looks like a great deal on that Atlas DP for $75. If I weren't 2000 miles away I'd be calling the guy. Thanks for sharing it.

Here's a 1 HP Baldor 'washdown duty' motor for $50 in Alameda CA, in brand new condition per the OP. It's 3450 RPM, so too fast for a drill press (probably too heavy as well, given it's a 1 HP unit, though it is Frame type 56C). Still-- $50 for a new 1 HP 120/240v Baldor is hard to pass up.

This guy's been dropping his price daily, so it's at rock-bottom now, better jump if you're going to do so.

That seller is only 5 miles from my house!

They're waiting for you to leave before popping these up, it's the only answer. If you like I can email, and see if I can drop $40 on him till you get back.

Lab grade means the block was milled to one ten thousandth of an inch tolerance!
Does everybody realize that those cost almost 2 grand new?
I was just in Alexandria VA 3 weeks ago! Overweight baggage wouldn't have worked out though... :)

That's a good price ($40) for San Francisco.

I just checked - the price is now $50. Now it is a fair price. IMO

Don't you just love it when a Craigslist seller puts up an ad and gets emails right away offering to buy it, then decides he must have listed it too low so he ignores the first emails and raises the price?

Looks like the ad is still up-- seller may have outfoxed himself.

Snappy Box set top and bottom.

Price $350.

Question, is it worth it? Do these boxes have ball bearing slides?

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/tls/5718849616.html

00K0K_gz5W6taKm8y_600x450.jpg

based on the snapon emblem plate, it is a friction box. kr533/558? here is a page from the 1975 catalog:
http://www.collectingsnapon.com/catalogs/catalogs.php?loggedin=0&catalogPage=2988

he mentions the top and bottom being on a rolling frame. don't know what is up with that, there should be casters bolted to the bottom.

is it worth it? if you are happy with it looking like that, probably. if you are willing to put in the effort to make it prettier, likely.

it is likely that the friction slides are still available for that box from snapon, if you need replacements. replacements for the channel attached to the box and drawers are not, and don't seem to be available elsewhere. you would likely need to fabricate some new ones yourself, or get someone to do it, if any of them been to be replaced.

go take a look at it. open and close *every* drawer. be suspicious if a few "stick", but "just need to be cleaned up".

and dont obsess about the locks. replacement keys are available if you can read the number printed on the front, and entirely new ones are available from snapon. even the new fancy ones were drop in replacements for my 1979 kr550/555 set.

A52-830, thank you for the info and thoughts. I am busy this week, but if it is still available this weekend, I may have a look at it.

usually letting these kinds of things sit for awhile is a good idea, if you are not hot to get it. if you and look at it, and aren't feeling "the joy", or it looks like there is significant work to be done, explain that to them, and see if you can agree on a price that makes everyone comfortable.
