I highly doubt this is still there. I'm guessing the motor is bad. But an old craftsman drill press, drill press vise, and an unknown vise for $40.

Alviso (San Jose, CA)

Drill press, vise, vise, table - $40

01010_d2rlHVIN8sD_600x450.jpg

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/tls/d/bench-drill-vise-press-bench/6365356015.html

I broke my spending spree 5 hours early and meet with the seller after he got off work around 7:30pm. I emailed him at 7am and he texted about an hour later emphasizing everything is sold as is and all sales final. I assured him I understood and offered to come at a time of his choosing. Ten minutes after we confirmed a meet time he texted my back and said he received a $60.00 offer.
I immediately called him and stated I will not partake in a bidding war, there are plenty of drill presses to go around for everyone looking for one and I am looking for items for my nephew such as a tool chest, wood working and mechanic tools. he said I was welcome to still come as he has some of the items I mentioned. The garage was open and he was boxing clothing and such for a Goodwill pick up. His father was a commercial painter and all around handyman. Inventory mostly consist of item related to his trade.

I spent $500.00 and took home:
Couple of ladders, one collapsible and a real Little Giant Dark Horse(fiber glass)
Craftsman Grey and Red top and bottom chest both filled with tools and various items.
Craftsman 100 series 10" inch table saw with 2HP Baldor motor
Craftsman 1/3 H.P. block grinder with stand
Handler Red-Wing model 704 drum Sani-Grinder USA
Small Craftsman Vise USA
Bosch trim saw kit
Makita 4inch angle grinder
Two drill press vice, USA and Taiwan
Record 3VS bench vise, this one has Made in England cast on side.
Little Pana-Vise screw clamp on type. You can see it hanging on the wall.
All tools hanging on the peg boards/walls
Couple of Craftsman compressors, 30 gallon and pancake, various air tools.
Vintage Chrysler 9.9HP boat motor-condition unknown
Lawboy 2 stroke mower
Echo PB400 backpack blower
Echo weed wacker
Two industrial Brothers sewing machines same OEM as Consew 206 and 227 models
there a few more items, but this is the gist of it
Somethings for the wife too, but this is not a Kitchen Forum

In case you are wondering, the Craftsman drill press was included in the package , the other buyer was almost an hour late and when he arrived the seller told him, I was first for the drill press and he said to let you have it for $60.00 but sold it because you didn't come when you said and did not have the courtesy to call and say you will be late. The other guy offered me $75.00 for
the DP and DP vises and gave me his card. I know this is an Atlas made DP.
It is smaller than I imagined it would be, barely 13 inches 1/3 HP. Should I accept the
$75.00 offer. I have not inspected or try to run or plug it in. My intent was to do a rebuild with Nephew and give it to him.
Nice score!

..and don't forget to share some pics of those other presses once you get them cleaned up. They've been raining drill presses for you the past few months, no wonder your wife said 'no more'!

It's the GF not the wife. Don't go giving her any ideas yet either lol. There was even a veiled threat to call my Mom involved in that discussion...

I definitely need to start a thread related to pictures of machines I've restored/am restoring.

Glad you got all that stuff. I'm kind of glad I didn't respond to him but also upset at the same time. I don't NEED anything you got at that sale but you definitely appear to have stolen it. Probably $2000+ worth of tools for $500. Not bad at all.

Back on track. Here's a delta 8" jointer in Antioch CA - $100

The ad says 6" but the size/model number are for a long bed 8" model. Really good deal for an 8" jointer. I'd be all over it if I was closer/needed a jointer.

Here are a couple more.

Sebastopol, CA

Hein Werner 1 1/2 Ton Floor Jack - $50

Not sure if this one is worth it because it's a bit small. But I went to an estate sale last week that was selling one of these for $150...

San Francisco, CA

Delta 6" Jointer - $20

This is about standard pricing for these little home jointers in the Bay Area. I paid $60 for mine, saw the same model but with the delta base for $50 last week. So $40, even on a homemade stand is a decent deal. I have the exact same model and it's been great for all my uses. The 4" models hover around the same price but I can't for the life of me figure out why you want one of those.

I have the same jack. Paid a bit more on Craigslist. Works, but a bit weak on the top end of the stroke.. I bought the rebuilt kit cheap, just need to get on with that. Still use it, and it's a real handy size around the shop..Have a Larger Lincoln too.. The way the handle comes off the jack is sweet.. Was pissed a bit when I first got it, knowing the guy knew about the issues, and did not say much about it.. I feel it will be with me the rest of my life, so overall a good deal.

What is nice about it, (when it's in top shape) there is a pride of ownership, because of the build quality/support available.

Oh, I must have a different HW JACK, it has the little knob, lever at the top of the handle, to change position of jack handle.
Still, I love mine to death.
Think it's the W series.

Anybody know anything about this bench grinder? Looks pretty decent, and high horsepower for the price. I may just have to pick it up on the way home.

Also, I know this is my first post and I will introduce myself shortly in the correct section.

Welcome Hugemoose, It's a good first question.

I want to say pass on that grinder, it was made during craftsman worst production time and highly plausible that it's made in Asia. It says 1 h.p. but it's most likely much less hp. the label states 10 amps (110-120v) which is closer to 1/2 hp which is typical of newer asian grinders. You should be able to find a similar Asian grinder for less money. It's also missing the tool rests on both sides which is a pretty critical part when using stone grinding wheels unless you have your own sharpening jigs or just want to use polishing wheels and wire wheels without guard covers. The pedestal is not bad but it's also not the nice cast iron bases that are highly sought after. It's probably a fine grinder but I think you could do better based on what typically comes up on craigslist.

I would be happier if you could get it for $75, tell him the tool rests are missing. Even then you'll have to spend time searching online for tool rests and buying them for more than $25 is highly likely.

I looked in your area for grinders, your area is definitely not a cheap area for grinders, almost twice the amount compared to my area but I wouldn't be surprised if you can find a better one especially if you don't need a pedestal. I do see some very good complete grinders, some with a cast iron pedestal but for more money.

There's this complete Rockwell-Delta with the hard to find lighted eye shields and has the vintage Craftsman pedestal made for a different grinder that has a silly high price re-sell value. If you don't need the pedestal, you could probably sell the pedestal for $75+. This grinder has a much better pedigree than the newer 90's Craftsman grinders.

HUGE Tool & Equipment AUCTION - Snap On - STARRETT - Vidmar - NOV 10th/11th (Hazleton, PA)

I found this while looking for grinders.

For the ones in this area, not sure if this will be a deal or not but looks like it could a nice opportunity to grab some cherries if the prices don't get too crazy.
I would be all over this if it was in my area. That amount of Starrett in that picture is a goldmine. The Snap-On also looks very nice especially those rolling racks but I'm betting those will go for high prices. The maple top work benches are in great condition.

Anyways, just posting in case anyone is interested.

Thanks macgee for the advice. I have a shoddy 1/3 hp Craftsman now (probably from the 90s) and it will barely sharpen a lawnmower blade. I certainly wasn't looking for a big dog grinder, just something decent for the weekend warrior.

I certainly keep looking, and well and make a phonecall about the one you mentioned.

while it is beyond my skill set, i would imagine that an old soda machine like that could be updated with new systems to make it as efficient as any small refrigerator you might have in the shop. you could even rig the top logo panel to flip open to store things like lunch (or ice cream).

The side and bottom are made by Stack-On but would still make for a nice set-up for someone for $125; Of course $100 would be better.

Nice find SGS,

Too bad its already gone. Lets hope for the new owners sake that the MDF formica top is still flat after sitting outside. The parts alone are worth way more than free.

Nice work Larryq!

I would inquire about that 14" Rikon 10-325 Deluxe bandsaw that's just barely in frame to the left.

Parts Carousel $50
Horiztonal Bandsaw (Chinese?) $25

I have noticed that a few members have these parts carousels in their shops/garages. I Do not have the room but I think for $50 it's a pretty good deal. Also, I'm not sure if you'll find a horizontal bandsaw for cheaper anywhere even if it chinese made.

Starrett Crystal Pink granite surface plate - $80 (inglewood, CA)

Great size for the home shop. Crystal pink is Starrett's best granite and these don't come up for sale often especially for $80. Bring some granite cleaners with you to inspect and see any imperfections, if it's undamaged then you'll be happy especially if it's an A or AA grade.

"Used granite surface plate . 18" x 12" x 4" Sand / pink color . Appears in great condition with little to no blemishes . Local pick up only . We have fork-lift to load". You won't need a forklift, it's probably around 65 lbs.

I'm looking for a floor jack on Craigslist in the SF bay area.

Any opinions on either of these?

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/d/big-auto-floor-jack/6376867333.html

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/tls/d/floor-jack-good-condition/6380389970.html

Looking for something with quality bones that I can give a little TLC to that will then work great for years. Not planning to do the beautiful paint restorations I see around here (just don't have the time), but I don't mind redoing the seals etc.

Jeffwidman,

Can't help you there. I have a bunch of harbor freight cheapies that have never let me down. Someone else here should be able to give you better advise though.

Pacifica, CA

Delta Band saw - $100

Appears to be a 14" wood model. If I were closer I'd snag it to replace my old Taiwanese band saw. Regardless I've been looking for an american made band saw for around this price for at least a year even though mine works fine and this is a really good deal for the Bay Area.

00303_cWRiGqZWO6f_600x450.jpg

https://sfbay.craigslist.org/pen/tls/d/delta-band-saw/6380566356.html

Also, not sure if anyone in the Bay Area has room for this but here's a great deal on an old lathe.

Vallejo, CA

Axelson 12x96 Lathe - $750

I'm guessing you could part out the chucks/tooling and I hate to say it but scrap the rest and still make money on this...
