I found a 3 D-cell battery Maglite. It looks like the previous owner left the batteries in it too long and they exploded. Now The endcap, spring and about half of the actual tube that holds the batteries is covered in a white powdery substance. I'm guessing that this corrosion is preventing the flashlight from working even with brand new batteries. Is there anything I can use to clean it out? Thanks.

Baking soda and water. Mix a solution and spread it on the corrosion. It will foam and eat the white powder.

Sounds like your light is pretty beat, but didya know that you could return a broken Mag-light, Klein tools, Gearwrench, etc to Sears for a replacement?

Try two strap wrenches. If that doesn't work pipe wrenches by themselves or with a pipe vise.

And, when you finally get Mr Maglica's invention apart, don't forget to use a brake hone to remove the final layer of **** adhering to the anodized aluminum tube.

Flashlight- Noun- a tube for holding dead batterys.

You can buy a new 3 cell unit for less than $15 ... why bother with one that is that far gone?

Because I'm a poor student, I found it, and this one is blue. I don't really need one so that $15 dollars is going to stay in the beer and books fund. If I can get this one going on the cheap, great. If I can not, no big deal. I'll try the baking soda and water sometime this week. If that does not work I might take it to Sears and see if they can do anything for me. Otherwise I will continue to exist without one. Thanks for everyone's input.
