Found a stash of tool catalogs.

I went to a sale at a warehouse that was originally a cabinet makers shop that had been sitting idle for quite a while. As to be expected, there was a lot of wood, old woodworking equipment, stains, thinners, and supplies.

When the shop closed, it became a storage area for a man who sold antiques. Stuff had been stored there haphazardly, and often times getting into back areas required stepping on things piled on the ground.

I found a stash of tool catalogs mostly from the late 80s-early 90s, with a few from the late 50s. When I get some time, I'll post more catalogs at a later date, they include: Starrett, Rockwell, Boice Crane, Morse, Simplex, Bessey, Jacobson, and others.

Thanks. The person running the sale is pretty much giving everything away, she only charged me $20 for the foot high stack of catalogs I pulled out.

They raised the rent on the warehouse so the person leasing it is itching to get rid of stuff. Anything not sold soon is going into a roll off dumpster sitting just outside the warehouse.

There's another sale planned for this Friday & Saturday that I plan on making.

I don't know if you're an Internet Archive contributor, or if any of those are even wanted or needed, i.e., info on collectible vises etc, and not already scanned and posted there for public access, but I'll make my plea.

On a different note....

The Columbian-Hargrave cover is a work of postmodern art. Literally. Part M.C. Escher, part Roy Lichtenstein. Worthy of framing.

Here are the last of the catalogs.

The South Bend is from 1956.

The Rockwell parts catalogs are from the late 1970s-early 80s but also include older models. The equipment covered includes band saws, table saws, drill presses, horizontal band saws, grinders, radial saws, scroll saws, and wood lathes.

PM sent yesterday. I'd like to scan most of this. The top priority would be the vise catalogs.

I'd like to put in a plug for @Mark Stansbury , @four.cycle (who let me know about Mark S), and others promoting the advancement of the ITCL catalog section of the Internet Archive. @Straightgrain, several times now I've loaded up a stack of old catalogs into a flat-rate mailer and sent them to Mark, who graciously does all the heavy lifting (scanning, administration, posting, return-shipping) involved with this whole operation. The result is an ever-growing, priceless collection of catalogs/literature pertaining to our favorite hobby....accessible to everyone.

Flat-rate mailers are cheap, but even cheaper is USPS "media mail". I'll be using media mail the next time I ship to Mark. My next pile will be ready soon. Mark always returns the catalogs back, packed with care. Oh, and I always pack a little green in with the catalogs......it's a volunteer operation, and I know that donations are appreciated.
