Actually Im building a garage for my tools and my cars! I don't have the floor poured yet in the new garage, that's why they're in the house.

They are the KRA 4100 series, so they are just over 40" wide.

So how much did you pay for the pair? Nice friggin boxes!
The bottom lists for 1995. stole that for 700. The top was 1400. new and I picked that up for 850. Not a bad deal compared to the stuffing I would have got for new ones. I think they are worth every penny new but I like letting someone pay the depreciation value up front for me.

I've got the same box-you can move the drawers around between the top and bottom boxes.I rearranged my box so that all of the shallow drawers are in the top box to make smaller tools more accessable.Another suggestion for you-bolt the boxes together-the holes are already there and it makes the box much more stable and easier to move when loaded.

Congrats on your buy. Awsome boxes. I agree, bolt em together. More stable and more difficult to pick upi and run with.

I saw the holes and I was wonndering if I could bolt them together. How do the drawer slides come off? I havent really looked at them yet.

z28toz06 $1550 is a good buy for a used box that looks new.

shkdwnnj FYI next month Matco has a promo on a single bay one piece box. I think it start around $2,995.00 Regular List Price new. But if it is in the monthly Promo book you might be able to make a deal.

do a search on ebay. there are a lot of boxes, some are the commemorative units mustang, covette 40th anniversary etc. I missed a 40th anniv. corvette black one like this set a couple of months ago, didn't have the scratch yet. sometimes they don't hit the reserve. pm the guy and talk to him. if they need to get rid of it they'll work with you. it helps of c ourse if you can pick it up.

Z28-
SO used a couple of different roller slides-one type uses a lever at the front of the mid section of the slide-lift the right side and push down on the left and the drawer will slide out of the track. If yours doesn't have the lever, you have to depress the detents at the front of the drawer and lift the drawer up out of the slides. The cabinet side of the slides is held in with either rivets or screws, then the slides lift off the tabs.If yours has the rivets, drill them out and replace them with short sheet metal screws.
You got a great deal on that set-up.I bought mine through my dealer as a repo. For the same box with a locker,in blue ,keyed alike,he wanted $3000-he gave me $2000 for my old box ($200 less than I paid for it 2 years before),so my set-up cost another $1000 for almost twice the room of my old one.

Are SO boxes worth the $?
It's strictly a personal choice that depends on the circumstances. At the time I bought my box and most of the tools in it,I was making my living with my tools. With basically a $3000 cost for a box that would go for about $4800 new,the fact that the newer box was as good as new and that I needed the room, yes,it's worth it.If I had been only wrenching as a hobby and didn't have a good trade-in,I doubt I would have gone for that amount of money.Z28 got a great deal on a great box-he basically got a SO box for a Craftsman Proffessional price.Possibly the best part of his deal is that in the future,if he decides to get a bigger box,he will get more for it as a trade-in to a SO dealer than what he paid for it.If he were to trade it in now, with it as nice as it is,he will probably get around $2500 for it towards a new box. That doesn't happen with c-man boxes-the last I heard,Sears doesn't take trades.

I have the same bottom box and love it, I was just wondering if it would be better to get a larger bottom box, or just buy the top box. I thought about trying to trade mine in on a larger roll cab.

IOD-
The way I understand it,a used SO box in like-new condition with no major scratches,no stickers and no dents will go for about 2/3 of it's list price as a trade-in. This also assumes that the box is a current model that is still available. I don't know if this works for all dealers in all areas or if this is just my dealer.Going by this rule of thumb,if your box is like new,you could get about $1300 as a trade. If the dealer you talk to has a nice used box of the type you want, you MIGHT be able to go to the bigger box fairly inexpensively.
To buy a box outright,if I had the time,I'd go the e-bay route.Prices seem to run about half of new for SO boxes in good shape there.

Food for thought.

Here it is together

boxcomplete002.jpg

I thought about getting 2 roll cabs and making a bench out of them, but then the top box came along. I think they are kind of on the high side for a bench.
