I got hold of a workbench that was being thrown out of a warehouse, its made from ship hull plate and 3 inch box for the legs. The top is 9ft long by 3ft wide, and it's about 3/8 inch thick. My problem is its too big for my workshop so I'm thinking of cutting it down to 6ft and maybe narrow it to 24 inches. And make the 3x3 offcut into a weld table.... any suggestions as the best use of this fabulous table?!

I would sell it and buy one that was the right size.
However I see your location is Ireland and having been there years ago a few times I am well aware that much of the place has a serious lack of anything industrial and a nice steel bench like that is quite a find.
Cutting the end off would be relatively easy and not require the structure to be modified, making it a foot narrower would be a lot of work and leave you with a foot wide piece of plate that is probably not all that useful.

3 24" sections to make up your 6' bench you wanted? Still alot of work but less than narrowing the bench.....
