Found a worth while cheap buy at Harbor Freight

Bought these little lanterns a while ago at $4.99 it was a impulse buy. Picked up a couple more here and there.

They are great saved our butts during our power outage. They burn for a remarkable time for 3 double A batteries. They telescope up so you can adjust the light output. The grands love em.

I've only seen black at HF. But did see some colored ones at tractor supply.

i have two of the full size ones, very bright and are pretty nice quality. they have four brightness settings and run on four D's

I have a couple of these and agree they are a good buy.

I have several RayOVac ones, using 4 D cells, they are great. They are part of the hurricane kit.

I also have probably nearly 30 of the HFT free 'brick of soap' blue-flashlights, which seem to last well, and are bright. It would be good to add a rheostat you could dial-down the illumination to stretch the battery life.

HF had a special a few weeks back. If you spent $25 you got one of those for free. So now i have the HF version. I had a version i had purchased a few weeks earlier at Target to go camping. They seem identical.

I bought one of those for my daughter, once, and it didn't work right out of the box. Took it back, and they were sold out so no exchanging, got my money back and just took it as one more lesson in not buying cheap stuff.

Bought another one from another source, for about $30, that is many times as bright, and has a rechargeable battery and several brightness modes. It works great. It's so frustrating that things get a great review, and then you find that the buyer just got lucky and got one of the ones that actually works, and your experience doesn't match that. I get sucked in by the $5 version, when it really takes a $30 one to do the job reliably and well.

Guess my dad and me have gotten lucky with 10-15 that we have gotten and kept or sent to nieces and nephews that worked fine out of the box. You’re going to base your experience off a sample size of 1, it’s not hard to get dramatic results one way or the other. Sure HF sells plenty of absolute ****, but there’s also some bang up products in that store that are screaming bargains.

I’ve seen them at Academy Sports,, Tractor Supply, and a few hardware store chains. They’ve got to be from the same plant.

All the HF batteries I’ve messed with are turds.

Thought of getting one, but if the light output is only controlled by closing it partially seems like a waste of battery life if you're looking to dim it.

you're not selling at a $5 price point if you have more sophisticated circuitry and a switch to adjust the output for different brightness levels

Harbor Freight flashlights and lanterns are IMHO, loss leaders to get you into the store.

Self discipline is the ability to go to Harbor Freight for only one item and buying only it and nothing else.
