I posted yesterday about the husky toolbox, and some people recommended that I try to buy used on CL or such places. Well today I found a old MAC tool box. Paint is coming off and some of the slides are bad. Some drawers are really hard to pull. But on the plus side its FREE. I have no clue how old it is, and I would like to get some new slides for it, could someone point me in the right direction about that.

MAC toolbox on the left is what im about to get for my home box and on the right is my Classic 96, my work box.

That's an MB1500. The narrow drawers on the right have been changed around, and most of the drawers are missing their drawers pulls.

You guys think that I can buy new slides from MAC, because some of the drawers keep opening when I close another one.

Good thing you didn't sell it ^. This box had been sitting in my shop for a while, maybe 4+ years. So i finally called the guy that owned it and he just gave it to me.

Stripping the paint off the box and sprayed it some zinc primer that someone recommended. Also had a REALLY GOOD experience with MAC tools. I called them yesterday and explained how I got this box and that some of the slides were bad. The lady on the other side was such a good person that she is sending me slides for 10 drawers :) .

Did you ask MAC if drawer pulls are still available for that box?

CWP1616L I didn't ask them about that, thanks for reminding me.

The progress on the box came to a sudden stop because we got so busy at work that I HAD to stop working on it.

Spider Ill try to post other pics I have and I still have to call back because they sent me slides for 5 drawers and not ten. So i will tell you about that later.

No Sr. It was gone by the time I call but there is one in Victorville that I'm looking at

Good luck on your search. I am interested in that style box as the long lower drawer would be a good place to store all my big oversized wrenches , sockets etc that don't get used as often.

Already painted one side and I'm stripping the paint on the other side. I think ill be leaving the back as is. Has anyone ever used undercoating on their drawers, if so please let me know how it went?

Thanks Guys. So I Used undercoating in 1 of my drawers and I'm not sure about it. Only thing left now is spray paint. Can anyone recommend a RED spray paint?

I tried to order those thru grainger. I actually did, paid $130.00 and never got them. Called em a month later and still nothing, so I ended up canceling the order.

Might have to reorder it once I get the money.

If that is your box can you measure how long the handles in the middle drawers are? Can you also measure the distance between the handle holes?

I just remembered that the distance between the handle hole spaces don't matter because the handles have a continuous groove that runs the entire length of the handle. You get the handle centered in front of the drawer and then mount the handle on from the back side of the drawer with hex head sheet metal screws. The size should be about the #8 x 3/4'' or something close to that. All you need is a 5/16'' nut driver to mount the handles on.

the box looks a lot better now than the first post that is for certain. just curious why you didn't try to find the handles more like what the box had originally? or do you like the full width handle that much better.

proto and mac boxes i'm pretty sure are the same box so here's my 1985 box with the handles i mentioned. also my MBC bottom box has handles i like that were maybe on your box originally.

I've seen plenty of trashed boxes on Craigslist that have these handles you might get cheaper than buying the ones from Grainger.

I wish I could find those handles. I've tried and haven't found anything yet.
