This will be a quick tease as I have to be up at 3am. I picked up this Snap On K-260 today. Stuffed full with a ton of Snap-On. Also found some Cornwell, Bonney, Proto, Plomb, and others.

I believe the top was repainted at some point, but the bottom looks like original paint. A couple of minor issues, but all drawers are smooth and just some surface rust.

I’m hoping to clean it up and use it as is. Not even sure where to start with all the stuff in it.

Some are asking how much? Ad started with a $1000 asking price. Week later it was down to $750. I offered $500 and we settled on $600 for everything. I need to make some money back on tools, so if you see something you want, let me know.a0e90c364454e77c333c294b210ecfac.jpgca0a1a76afefaee5b293e7400b309113.jpge4bfd8a243d00334aae5ef6ebbf5a6d9.jpga6c85580dd43008c019eecea973ebf23.jpg

Thanks for all the suckage compliments.

I would also like to thank thehorse13. When I came across the box, I sent him a few questions since we had dealt with each other in the past, and he is far more knowledgeable than me on this stuff.

He gave me some good advice and a target price to aim for. I was actually able to do better than his target price so I feel pretty good about the purchase.
More pictures to come as I sort this stuff out.

Thanks twertsy. I’m still amazed every time I watch one of your garage tours. If you or Sonny ever see something in this area, let me know as I’d be glad to hold it for you.

I'd seen that set for sale on CL and had thought of pulling the trigger, but i have told myself no more toolboxes. Congrats on the purchase!

You KILLED it on this deal. The tools are far better than even I suspected.

I loooooove the black handled SnapOn screwdrivers. I use them all the time and always welcome more when I can find them. Let me know if you want to cut those loose.

I've personally told you that you **** when we were discussing this purchase so I will let the others chime in now. lol

Also I found a way to straighten out drawer slides using square shank long screwdrivers. I will message you details if you need them.

I need details! I have a bent slide on my K61! Don't be stingy! Share the details!!

Find yourself two long square shank MAC screwdrivers. The old school wooden ones that nobody seems to want. I personally love them but that's another story.

As it turns out, these MAC screwdrivers are the exact width of SnapOn, and likely other, drawer slides.

Step 1) Place screwdriver on each side of the slide.
Step 2) SLOWLY close in a vise.
Step 3) Marvel at your refurbished drawer slide.

Thanks horse for the tip. I only gave it a quick once over last night, but all the slides seem straight and drawers are smooth.

I’ve got some household projects I need to tackle before I can really get into this box. I’m guessing some Simple Green and scotchbrite pads may be my first step.

Anyone have any tips for how to tackle this project? I would like to keep it as original as possible.

Hey horse. You start that toolbox restoration company yet? Maybe I could just drop it off at your place for a couple months?

OP could you tell me more about the one set of special pliers in your picture, something like the name of the company that made them, model numbers ect. The pliers I am talking about are between the hack saw and the red handled Mac ratchet.

Thank you.

A good cleaning will do wonders for this rig. Here is some hard learned free advice. When cleaning this up, go from most mild form of cleanser and work up from there. Start with something simple like a bucket of hot water and Dawn dish soap.

Cleaning this way takes longer but you will not accidentally get too aggressive with the cleaning process and end up ruining something.

I can't wait to see the finished results.

Just for example, I generally do things like this.

1) Dawn and hot water
2) Uncut Simple Green (Always clean this off thoroughly because it can eat paint if left on there too long)
3) 0000 steel wool and Barkeepers Friend followed by a quality car wax.

Once I reach this point, I determine if I need to go into more aggressive territory or simply get the thing down to bare metal and do a complete respray.

Woody, those are a type of circ-clip pliers. The clip instead of having tabs with holes, the ends are the same height as the main body, cut at an angle, 45 ? , points to the outside. I inherited a set of Craftsman, when Jim retired. The company ones were Snap-on and two handed.

I think you’re talking about these? A quick google search tells me they are Vintage Ford Shift Rod Linkage Grommet Separator Pliers.

I’ve gotta be honest. I had no idea what they were for until I searched.ace6438e7cff80623bafef8e8929d40c.jpga9f66296208291eb0bbddb96eac972b6.jpg36daee4a0887d5357067c397749d7f21.jpg0b34e3874c8eb9850af9b07ad8aa7e85.jpg

Still going through stuff and found this. I’ve never had a reason to own a 5/8 drive ratchet.

I’ve looked at the Snap-On date code chart and can’t decide if this is 1942 or 1952.

Any guesses? 1942 would be cool since that would make it WWII.

We had a heat index of 105 degrees today so I didn’t spend much time in the garage. I did uncover these two tools and was wondering what anyone could tell me about them.

There are no markings anywhere on the twist ratchet. Anyone recognize maker?

The socket only has the name Bousfield Engineering Redding Calif stamped on it. A quick search didn’t turn up much on the company. Any info? Thanks.

Also I’m still getting to the PMs concerning some tools. I can tell you 2 boxes were shipped out today to a couple of people. If you haven’t heard from me yet, I will get to you. My work schedule and the 100+ temps are keeping me inside. Thanks.d4aa73cceca07fcf2e8488de472aa3d4.jpg2137dd8041bbf3d21a14aa5788fb617e.jpg43670b2d3915e979b474b398807cc12b.jpg8a914a10c93eef884ba49a94f49da9a7.jpg8bebcda751955559e40d82c5baa6aff5.jpge1599bdf36118b78e92260c4e2d00167.jpg14930c89bcf7fc2fac7f51225d183351.jpg

Looks like a “Sidewinder” ratchet. I bought one when I was younger. The idea is that you break the nut or bolt loose and then quickly spin it off turning the run handle at the bottom. Still have mine but never found it very useful.

Look up “QualConnectTM 3/8" Reversible Sidewinder Speed Wrench. U.S. patent no.4907476” on Amazon.
