At auction, those go for very little more than scrap price. I've watched them go down for $250. That's when the machinery vultures can part them out on eBay and make a profit.

Seller also says,
You could also take the drill heads off and use them as normal floor drill presses
Sure, if you can find four floor columns and bases to put them on and four single phase motors.

Yup, gang drills have become obsolete. I recall rows of them at my first job, early 1970's at the old Sperry Rand plant in Lake Success, NY. Not much of a market for used ones unless perhaps the smaller 2-head jobs. No individual table, no base, unfortunately the best use for old gang drills is probably as organ donors so other incomplete drills may live.

Appear to be Delta 17 heads cleverly disguised as WT, must be from after the merger/buyout. Still going to be a tough sell at $1000 I think.

I turned down a Delta 4-gang some years back. CL seller had a garage chock-full of stuff and needed cash. He was asking $150 for it but I had no way to move it and no place to really put it at the time.

If I had space and the need, I'd consider one if it was cheap. Not $1000. Maybe remove 3 of the drill press heads, leave one on R or L side as needed... use as a HD work bench with a built in drill press.

After reading all the replies and opinions about it's price I contacted the seller and I'm going to go look at it Thursday. I'm really only interested in the table as it would make a fantastic welding/fab table. I'll let you know how it goes!

One of these rigs came up on my local Craigslist site. It languished for months at $200. There is no way the seller is getting $300 let alone $1,000 for this setup.

What are/were these gang drills used for?

Set up multiple processes and leave them in place, ready for whenever they are needed?

Multi-step production process where you move from one station to the next?

My company rents space in an old sewing machine factory where they still make commercial sewing machines for items like sandbags, mattresses, and even clothing (still?). They have a number of gang drill presses used in production work for drilling, reaming, counterboring, etc. One person can handle all those steps in short sequence.
