Driving down the road and saw this black slightly bigger than a football object by the ditch. Pulled a U and found this motor. Looks to be at least 5hp judging by size, but there is no markings other than 220V. Two capacitors inside. One reset button. Flange mounting, which I've never seen up close and have no idea what it would be used for. Motor looks new other than bent external fan and slight road rash.
Can anyone tell me what it may have came from and a possible use for it.

The flange is likely a "C" faced mounting configuration for the motor.
Normally used with a shaft coupling to drive the item it is mounted to.

Hard to tell what it was for, but someone is going to be missing it as it is worth quite a few $.

Could be for a pump, fan, gearbox, mannnnny other options.

Speed would make difference on application also. 2pole, 4pole, 6pole etc.
