OP, those first two metric set skip useful sizes. 3/8" set only goes to 18mm? Need 19mm at least. And no 12mm in the 1/4" set? You'll need it. 5.5mm would be nice too. I know nothing about the quality of "Workpro".

You didn't mention budget so....

I agree on the skips and unknown factor on the WorkPro. However with that cantilever box you can easily fill in any missing gaps as well as add to like a 1/2 breaker bar ect.
I like that OEM set looks to be about the same quality as the Channellock with out the skips. That Snap-On set looks awesome! but I don't think it will fit well in the back of a Toyota Camry or Nissan Altima, perhaps my Nissan Hardbody though....

Falcom and Hazet are nice tools but this will roll around in a trunk of a car and a toolbox on a truck. I would not want anything that will make me cry if it is lost or stolen. Keep the suggestions going though, I'm sure others maybe interested in any available options.

I would rather buy some quality pieces piecemeal, or make a set out of spares I have, than buy a skips set. The 17 and 12 missing from the first two sets makes me want to just blow money on another SK set and fill in the drivers, pliers etc. needs.

And the funny thing is, I am trying to thin down my junkyard bag o tools. But, just when you don't need 17mm on a GM vehicle you wn, some hardware store M10 bolts are staring back at you.

Well, without budget (again) we have no idea what price level will "make you cry"...

I have a Facom 1/4" socket set that is nice & compact, complete, and has been in my trunk for years.

I have a $10 HF set in my truck and the first time I used it, 3/8" drive broke off plus the 10 and 12 mm socket cracked when trying to remove an alternator from a client's car. I drove to my shop to grab my Snap-on ratchets and sockets to finish the job luckily it was only 5 miles round trip.

OP, I'd skip those sets because the money spent on ratchets in those sets will be wasted. Fixed and bulky heads, and short handles. Nearly useless. It won't be long before the limitations become apparent and the frustration builds and you get ratchets better suited to automotive work.

Pair the ratchets with metric socket sets (might include extensions and a universal joint) that don't skip fastener sizes found on Japanese vehicles.

You're on the right track though in terms of going metric-only. If more people did that when starting out their tool collection instead of buying those entry combo sets, the consumer tools industry would finally drop those and offer more metric-only kits.

No 17mm either.

And no 12mm in the 1/4" set?
It's like they assemble these sets with the leftover fasteners. Working on my Honda, I wouldn't get far without 12mm in both regular and deep.

That is a great metric set, I've never seen that one from SK before. Great price too (only one left in stock)

I looked at that set about earlier tonight as a result of this thread and there were 5 in stock. This thread may have resulted in a few sales. :wtf:

Fortunately for me, I have 1/4 and 3/8 SK sets already. :bounce:

X2, Get a good set of ratchets and add the socket set with no skip sizes.

Holy heck, if I weren't already a happy man with Gear Wrench, I would jump on this. $256 is a good price for 62 pieces of S&K.

You people had better be snatching these up and showing them love--as in making them work for you and not sit in a drawer.

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned Harbor Freight. There's got to be a Quinn or Pittsburgh Pro set there that fills the need. If there is a skip or two fill in with Tekton. Problem solved.
