I've been wanting a new portable toolbox and looked to Wright first as I do prefer US made and their prices aren't bad locally. Looked through the online catalog with its made in the USA logo at the top and found the one I wanted.
Get it home and it has only one tiny defect, one of the lock loops at the left latch is slightly bent so one quick straighten. The next day when I'm cleaning up I notice the box says made in China. I ask for clarification through their online email link on why the catalog makes no mention of this and the semi-recent video proclaims anything on a Chinese boat is only to help it go faster.
After 4 days of no response I call to ask, the lady who answers mentions something about making enough changes that they can claim it is made in the US. She forwards me to someone who isn't in and has not replied to my message in a week.
I still like the box a lot but I'm really disappointed by the customer service and the lack of clarity. I buy US because, despite all the whining about the EPA, i like to know or think there's been less environmental impact, there isn't lead in the paint,or excessive chemicals gassing off around me. I want to know its more ethically made. Had it said Canada, anywhere in the EU or anyplace where environmental and labor controls are in place I really wouldn't care, but this seems deceitful to me. Guess I should have read the box better before paying.

Doesn't sound like that First Lady understood the question. They should update though.

Their online tool catalog does have quite a few non-USA made items. I agree, that USA designation at the top of every page is misleading and it should be corrected. Everything Wright actually makes themselves is USA made, but their catalog includes many products from brands other than Wright. Look at the Vise-Grip page of the same catalog and you see the same USA logo at the top yet all the different Vise-Grips listed on those pages are also China made.
I get that but those are actually branded as visegrip just as the pliers are left being branded as channel lock. In the case of the tool box it is branded as Wright's without indication that its a rebrand from China. I'd be equally disappointed to discover a wright branded pair of locking pliers are actually vise-grips made in China.

Wright Tool makes most of their boxes overseas and has done so for a while. Many are made in Canada. I guess the cost for sheet metal workers in the USA is just too high to be competitive.
