Hi,

haven't been in here in a while since I still don't really have a garage. However, I am saving stuff that I want IN that garage should it one day materialize. The other day I saw something red in a garbage skip that looked a lot like a tool box. I climbed in and found this:

It must have looked strange for any "normal" people passing by, watching the little jig I did after I lifted it out. The front lid, one of the lock sliders, its spring and the key was missing, but everything can be fixed with some TLC:

Even better is that it fits perfectly in the side hatch of my Syncro!

Can anyone tell me any details about this gorgeous Snap-On tool box?

WOW

That is a beautiful, early to mid 1940's K-55R. I'd be really interested to know how it ended up over there. Congrats and enjoy it, sad that someone would just throw that out.

Who the hell throws away something like that?

Makes me sick to think of all the great things that have been discarded over the years -

Great find OP, you do in fact ****.

Ah yes. Tool box envy... :D

I never would have guessed it was almost 70 years old, with the condition it is in. That's great!

Snap–On has sold tools over here for a long time, so I am guessing it belonged to a workshop over here at some stage. Either that or it may have come here as part of the Marshall aid just after WW2.

I find a lot of perfectly serviceable tools that has been thrown away almost on a weekly basis. It is amazing how much quality tools are being thrown out, in fact most of my electric tools, including 3 welders come from the local garbage dump... People have too little brains and too much money, it seems...

Anyway, thanks for the feedback! Will definitely be keeping this one :)

Not out here. Everyone and their mother jumped on the
"scrapping" band wagon out here. You're lucky to find anything anymore.

Great find!

At first I thought it was the same as my oldest Snap-on, but mine has the drop-down panel hinged on the top cover. I've never seen what I'd term a machinist-style cover on a Snap-on box.

This one predates yours. They didn't start with the hinged front panel on that style box till the late 40's.

Really awesome with the knowledge in here. I love old tools and equipment and I only have one criterion: It has to be functional and I, personally have to have a use for it.

However, I will NEVER throw away tools and tool chests as long as it has a brand and as long as it works or is relatively easily fixable. I really hate the waste that I see every time I visit the garbage dump/recycling yards. Rest assured that if I find something that I don't need or can not keep, I will post it here at a VERY reasonable price. Probably close to free plus shipping if anyone sees any use in it.

Some more pictures. I am impressed by the shape it is in, to be honest. I haven't even cleaned it out yet! Apologies for the lack of photo quality.
